May I ask what the benefits are compared to a Bi-Pod mounted to my AR?
Does it come with some sort of Bag or Cover to Store it in?

Fantomas,

If you are happy with the bipod and you have a bipod for all of your weapons, then there may not be an advantage for you.

The advantage comes in when you have multiple firearms, which may not all have bipods or you have a rifle that doesn't readily accept a bipod (such as an M1 or a 1903 Springfield).  The X-Rest and the AR-Rest deploy very quickly and provide a very stable position making it easy to get set up and then shoot multiple firearms without any changeover or setup time between them (at least with respect to the shooting rest).

One scenario is that you have an AR-15, tactical shotgun and a pistol.  Normally the shotgun and pistol won't have a bipod, but a shooting rest makes it much easier to sight them in.  Lets pretend your AR-15 doesn't have a bipod.  In that case one shooting rest allows you to shoot all three weapons from a very light and easily deployable shooting rest.  When you are done, you just pull the pin and put the AR-Rest in your bag, or range box.

We initially included a bag, but most people didn't want the extra cost (especially the distributors we have been talking with), so we took it out of the package.

Thanks for the questions!

Cheers,

Montie

Nicholsmf,

Might be better to consider it a very portable and easily deployable shooting rest.

thanks for your reply.
It does look like a nice product and may work for the applications you have mentioned. The reason why I was asking about a Bag of some sort is that I like to keep my stuff neat and protected so may be you should think about offering it with the Rest. I can not think that it would add a lot of $$$ this in my opinion would be a nice touch and a sign of quality. The Dealers / Distributors are the once selling the Product but in the end the Customer is the one using it. Also I can not imagine using something like this on a Handgun I would see no reason for a Rest but this is just me and overall my opinion.

I wish you Good luck with this Product.

you could also use it as a tire spike or some sort of obstacle

Do you have any side by side pictures of the two different heights together for comparison, with an AR or AK on each?   I'm trying to figure out which one I want, it seems the shorter one is ideal for most of the bench shooting I do.

Falbert,

Here are some pictures of the AR-15 on an AR-Rest prototype (height is almost identical to the shipping version):

Please note the AK-47 in the video.

Here are some pictures in the prone position with an AR-15 with an X-Rest Lightweight

X-Rest.LIGHTWEIGHT on the bench with an AR-15

AR-Rest Prototype (same height as the shipping version) in the prone position:

Hope this helps.

hmm...
you are in the same market as these products:
http://www.battenfeldtechnologies.com/caldwell/catalog.asp?product=Handy-Rest-NXT
http://www.battenfeldtechnologies.com/caldwell/catalog.asp?product=Rock-Jr
http://www.battenfeldtechnologies.com/caldwell/catalog.asp?product=the-rock

The biggest weakness as compared to other rests is that height is not adjustable.

Renn,

Good observation.  The X-Rest and AR-Rest shooting rests are designed to meet specific needs.  If you need an adjustable rest, there are tons of options (and we will be adding one soon).  Most of the adjustable rests do not quickly disassemble into a lightweight format that you can put in a gun case or range box.  This is where the X-Rest, or the AR-Rest shines.  It is very stable, quickly deployed, lightweight and breaks down into a very easy to carry (and store) size.  Our goal with these products is to solve simple problems in a simple ways.

Bingo!  My interest is in lightening the "load" of my range back pack.  I normally lug around a Caldwell "The Rock" with an 8" adapter, and while it is nice, I would prefer something more compact for general use.  I don't plan on getting rid of "The Rock" any time soon and will bring it out for sighting in new optics since the range of adjustment is handy.

Montie - on your website it states the stocks are anywhere from 6.5" to 9.5", are you talking about the top of the stock where your cheek is to the bench?

[#13]
The 6.5 or 9.5 distance is from the bench (or ground in the prone position) to the bottom of the fore-end.

Another way to describe the height is imagine that you are using a sandbag to support the firearm.  The equivalent sand bag for an X-Rest is 6.5 inches tall.  The equivalent sand bag for an AR-Rest is 9.5 inches tall.

These are interesting, I will echo what an earlier poster said about a way to keep the pieces together. I think if I picked one up, I would be looking for a way to transport it as one unit and not 3 pieces. I am thinking about field use, pick-up/take down though it may be "easy" to do, stowing it and retrieving it may not be.

Thanks for the feedback.

One option we looked at is using a velcro strap to hold the pieces together.  The problem with the velcro is that a plain piece of velcro isn't stretchy and it just isn't possible to get it tight enough that the pieces don't move around.  One possibility there is to add a stretchy piece in the middile of the velcro strap to all it to have some give.

We offered a bag for a while.  Sounds like we need to bring that back as an option.  Do you have any suggestions about how you would like to see the device stowed?

Thanks,

Montie

Maybe a gear company like Tactical Tailor or someone could make small bags to fit  the rest.  Something similar to the bag at the link below but without the padding that would be unnecessary for stowage of the rest.

For storage maybe just a bungee that loops around it would work? Maybe that is connected somewhere so it is always attached.  Also, the cord keepers on laptop power cords may be a good model, just for a velcro strap.  I am torn on whether it needs a bag or not, because most of the time I am carrying enough bags/cases, so just fitting in a compartment on a rifle bag would be great.
