   1940 Finnish VKT. The middle and front barrel bands are completely stripped out and the front sight has come loose of its stake. Cleaning rod also seems to not want to screw into thr stock correctly either. It fires though. Where would be the best place to buy the most original barrel bands as possible? Are the Finnish and Russian bands any different? |

Looks like an m91/30 front sight on an M91. Without checking, I believe you need to turn lefty on the barrel bands and the bands tighten up. I think. Can't remember right meow and can possibly check later. So if you're turning the screw to the right, it'll loosen the bands. They're sprung. |

It seems you are correct about the front sight that's a dang good catch. You are also correct on the bands. Thr front band has just tightened up ladies and gents. The rear band is missing the screw. With the front band tightened the cleaning rod isn't nearly so loose, it's actually pretty snuggly secured. Is there actually something the rod screws into in the stock or is the tension of the bands supposed to secure it? Just holding the rear clamp together by hand it seems like the rod would be captured enough to not walk forward. So now I'm to needing a rear band fastener and a front barleycorn sight. Thank you! I've been dealing with a floppy upper hand guard and loose rod for nothing! I was just turning the screw the wrong direction  this why I came to the pros.  |

You can check Liberty Tree Collectors and see if they have any M91 bands, sometimes they do. There were a couple different styles of bands but as long as you get the larger rear one it will work well enough. As for the cleaning rod, there is a cleaning rod retaining nut. You can take the action out of the stock to access the retaining nut, they tend to fill up with gunk sometimes and you can pull it out and clean it and the end of the rod will then screw right into it. |
