I have a customer born in the Panama control zone, his checks are always delayed by NICS, and when I call in the reps are always a bit confused when I say his birthplace. Is there a different or formal term he should be using on it for better recognition? He has no record and was honorably discharged. |

"Panama Canal Zone" is confusing to the NICS rep because its not an option in NICS. Just use "Panama". Same confusion will happen when a customer puts "United Kingdom" or "Great Britain".........neither is an option in NICS. (buyer would need to specify England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland) Is there a different or formal term he should be using on it for better recognition? Panama. He has no record and was honorably discharged. FBI NICS is a name and descriptive information check. If the buyers name matches or is close to matching the name of a prohibited person, he ay get delayed. Having no record or discharge status doesn't apply becuase there may be another guy out there with the same or similar name who does have a record. |
