Recently purchased one of my grail guns a very nice PTR-91 that has a Timney trigger. I currently have Burris AR-332 on it. I like the set up, and as currently configured weighs in at 11.5 lbs. I’ll probably take it deer/hog hunting. It appears it would probably be fairly effective on pretty much anything in North America. Just wondering what everyone else is using on theirs. Would an LPVO 1-4 with illumination vs RDS with magnifier vs the prism scope set up I’m using be best? It would be nice to run the optic like a red dot with both eyes open easier with the LPVO on 1X vs the prism scope. Suggestions and pictures appreciated. Attached File |
| I probably should have said this in my post yesterday, but with these rifles you are limited to shorter optics because of interference with the charging handle. I tried a 2-10 Burris on mine and you couldnt charge/hang the handle on the open position because of the objective bell on the scope. |

The length issue is why I went with a prism scope. Have also been looking at the Sig Romeo red dot magnifier combo. I also thought about using a 1x prism with a 3x magnifier behind it. AI says it will work but I’m skeptical. That combination seems like it would work but I have parts to dig out of the box. It’s fun to experiment with different components to see what works best but it can be challenging and expensive. |
| Whatever you do keep the total package as short as possible. One of the problems with a factory stock and optics on the 91 platform is getting enough space for eye relief while not pushing the optic so far forward that it conflicts with the charging handle. |

Attached File Primary Arms 1X showed up. Ignore the crappy magnifier. Will be purchasing a better magnifier shortly. I’m not sure if one set up can cover everything, but with qd mounts I can switch from the 1X prism with magnifier to an LPVO if I want to hunt with it. |

So minding my own business at the gun store and find this for $1300 OTD. Attached File PTR 91, 16” looks unfired, Trijicon 1-4x24 green German reticle, Warne QD mount, hard case, sling 6 mags, wide AC Unity fore end and a bipod. For that price I couldn’t afford not to buy it. So the plan now is to put the really nice LPVO and the wide fore end / bipod on the full size rifle and either turn the 16” into a modern build with a collapsible stock or have my smith convert it to a G3K clone. |

Attached File So here’s the final for the full size PTR. Trijicon 1-4 for the optic is what I originally wanted but couldn’t justify for what is essentially a range toy hunting rifle. However if you have the means my goodness it is certainly a step up from my usual Vortex or Sig. The after painting, the wide handguard with the bipod pairs perfectly for its purpose. The shortened stock fits better. Fun project. Sometimes even I get lucky. |
