PSA Olcan bullpup concept (Page 1 of 2)

![]() Starts 1:18 https://youtu.be/WfMhtCOQ6Ws?feature=shared&t=78 Seems to be a JAKL bullpup conversion as opposed to a ground up bullpup design. But more 'pups the merrier in my book. |
| What surprised me about the Jackl is it is supposedly a long stroke gas piston design. Since there are similarities to the AR-180 I assumed the Jackl was a short stroke gas piston. I have no negative feelings about the long stroke gas piston as that is what is used in my Tavor SAR. I’d like to shoot the PSA Olcan as it looks like the design as some promise. |

Eternity is coming for us all. It cannot be denied, debated or avoided.
We would do well to ponder how we're going to spend that eternity, because eternity is a long time to be wrong.

I will probably buy and set up with my short 300blk upper and can. @PalmettoStateArmory any chance you get around to adding a front mag release linkage/button so the mag can be dropped with the trigger finger (like an AR) similar to the X95? That's a missing feature on every other AR conversion bullpup. |

Thanks, Josiah @PalmettoStateArmory A competition style flared magwell / mag funnel would also be a desirable feature on any bullpup, to aid reloading without looking at the magwell. Some prototype ones made for the AUG. ![]() The 'pull' style trigger linkage of the K&M M17 bullpup is also worth looking into. The long wire linkage pulls against the sear as opposed to pressing into it, making it less suceptible to creep / flex. https://www.kmarms.com/M17S556.html |

Sven Manticore Arms Great to hear, thank you. Does it also have a good shell deflector for off shoulder firing, similar to the new Corvus/Steyr deflectors for the AUG? Trigger, flared magwell, and shell deflector I think are the ideal straightforward upgrades for bullpups to solve most of the complaints. |

No one interested? Video on YT and IG for 24Hrs and not a peep on here guys talking about. Assuming the unit in this video is a production model looks like they may have a few small design changes. Maybe less scalloping on the lower from the image posted above a few months back. Attached File |

Bullpup Jakl sounds like a winner to me! Probably won’t be an early adopter but it’s high on the list for 2026. |

Originally Posted By GabrielSeth: shame nobody integrates in forward mag releases into these types of lowers You noticed something, but may not realize the significance of what you said- no one (at least no one I can think of offhand) integrates forward magazine releases into AR-15 bullpup conversion lowers, and for some very practical design reasons: 1. Forward magazine release buttons, like on the X95 and Tavor 7 are quite simply Rube Goldberg levels of complex. you are having to translate that button motion with levers, rods, and all sorts of other clever and complex mechanisms; and you have to do it with minimal button press motion and minimal force requirement. 2. The AR-15 lower receiver is really, really tight space-wise around the OEM magazine button area. You have less than 1/4" of space between the magwell and the trigger group. Almost every other equivalent firearm has a receiver 1-2" longer, and bullpups can be built from the ground up with the location of the trigger group, etc. to accommodate their crazy forward magazine button system if required. 3. You are limited by the AR-15 upper and lower split- nothing can be above the plane of the lower receiver/forend, and to boot if you are going to attach to the forward takedown pin lug you have to figure out a way to clear that pin, and even more importantly, the detent spring for it, which for manufacturing purposes typically needs to be reoriented into a vertical plane. 4. You are limited on the routing of your magazine release linkage by where your trigger linkage is routed and where your safety is too. If you have a clean slate to work on, say like redesigning the Tavor SAR from basically the ground up to get the X95, then yes, you have much more control over the envelope to give you the space to make it work. | There actually was a design that did it pretty well called the phantom pup but the guy didn't being to market. He did release it as a fosscad model which can be bought and built at home. I did it and it worked pretty well but obviously lacks the fit and finish you'd expect of a professional product as its an FDM print. |

There have been 6.5 Grendel bullpups proposed since early development of the Kel-Tec RDB but have never materialized. The Olcan might be the right platform for the 6.5 Grendel, 6 ARC, 22 ARC or 338 ARC. A 20” bullpup in 6 ARC that can reach way out there in a compact platform might catch some attention. The 338 ARC in a bullpup suppressed would be a slick cqb platform. A 6.5 Grendel Olcan could be a very compact suppressed night hunting carbine for dispatching feral hogs. A 16”-18” Olcan in 6.5 Grendel with a can and good thermal optic would have good ballistics in a compact package. |

| I saw that PSA responded to comment about the short uppers on social media and said the Olcan lower is longer than the upper. Now I'm curious to see if anyone will be able to make it work. |

With it only using the two normal takedown pins, there's no reason being shorter would stop it from fitting, just danger due to muzzle blast. |

That's why I was confused to begin with it didn't make sense in my head. Guess I'll just have to wait and see. I'm sure someone will be messing with them shortly. |

The slightly more forward charging handle would also be more advantageous on a pup. |

Kinda disappointed they didn't do much to make the controls better for bolt release, or mag release for bullpup ergos. Still works, but just give me 1990s M17s vibes. Really if they did X95 style mag release and bolt release, it would have made it a much better bullpup contender. Also it fundamentally bothers me how they extended the rear of the receiver so much to make it non nfa for their 14.5 p&w crap and released this 'Cuckpup' rifle. They should have made the length with a spacer that could be removed so if you had a longer barrel or SBR it, you could get rid of that dead space. Or even do an adjustable stock like we see on the Hellion. |

If you really wanted to go nuts and just have an integral aluminum butt instead of a bolt on rubber pad, you can drop around another 1/2". Sven Manticore Arms |
