Well I got "killed" on FB for asking this question...... I have a machinist buddy that is good at what he does and has a very expensive lathe. His buddy brought him a factory PS90 16" barrel that he wants chopped and threaded to 10.4" (yes, he has the SBR paperwork). He asked the guy a few things including the "feed rate" and misc. needed to drill the metric threads into the 10.4" once cut. Anyone a "shade tree" machinist that might have cut down their own barrel? Tips and tricks? Suggestions (other than sending it off to someone else). He is asking for some basic info so he can properly put the FN Specialties "CMMG PS90 style" flashider. Thank You. |
| If your machinist buddy is good at what he does, he shouldn’t be asking any of those questions to someone that isn’t a machinist. Cutting metric threads on any decent lathe is super easy, left hand threads can get tricky though, you often have to get pretty creative by flipping your threading tool upside down and running the lathe backwards. Tell him to practice on some stock turned to the barrel diameter first so that he doesn’t wreck the barrel. |

| Even though I believe TROS does an OUTSTANDING job of cutting and threading FN PS 90 Barrels, I took it too a local PROFESSIONAL machine shop….. $150.00 & was PERFECT! |

Just buy a copy of the Machinists handbook it has all the feeds and speeds for threading in there. as well as other stuff. Most lathes if they are not natively metric will probably need the metric threading gears swapped out. |
