I have a new to me PS-90. It's sidelined right now as I wait for a lower optics mounting solution (HBI for the Slx1x). My intention is to file a Form 1 to convert to SBR, but want to shoot it first to make sure I'm happy with it. The gun came with a small quantity of SS197, and I have a few of the SS198lf green tips left from my FN Fiveseven. I want to slowly build up a small ammo stockpile (after test fire) and I'd like to know what you all think is a superior choice for self defense type ammunition. I was interested in the Speer Gold Dot and the Critical Defense offerings, but I see they are not recommended for the PS-90. Not interested in unobtainium SS190 or boutique ammo. Something that a PD might issue is my preference just for a modicum of legal protection. So, what's your take on the best choice for working ammo? |

SS198LF is a good choice. Limited penetration. 70 cents/round here: I bought some of this. Haven't shot any yet. |

Speer Gold Dot expanded the best, followed by SS197sr. | I have run a few non-FN brands of ammo through my PS90 and haven't had any problems, minus 1 round out of 600. It was from a box of Fiocchi 40 grain in the 150 round pack and the bullet recessed into the case but didn't feed. I checked all the other rounds and they seemed ok. I have shot many Speer GD rounds through it without issue, in both PS90 and pistol. For range ammo they are fine but I also have some FN 197 if for some reason I need something serious but the little gun is for fun. |
