The fit and finish on this Imbel built FAL is nicer than any FN built FAL
I've seen.

Shoots great too, such a beast !!

That SLR looks slick with the L4 mag, and I'm glad that it's on a proper receiver (not a Type 3).

Just picked this one up from another member and stuck a TA648 on it to see how it feels.

Yep, still ridiculously big.

 Shot it yet?  I'm mad at myself for selling off my minty set of Israeli light hand guards.

Anyone ever hunt with a FAL?
Link Posted: 4/3/2020 7:59:53 AM EDT
[#23]
Yes, I used to deer hunt in the 90's with the FAL.

Once I mounted a scope on an SAR-48 Izzy HB and killed a white tail with it.

Used some kind of soft point 150 gr bullet.

About 80 yds. broadside, right behind the right shoulder.

Clean hole through a rib on each side, no bullet recovered.
Ran about 20 yds.
All contents of rib cage, heart, lungs etc. were turned to mush.

Deer was DRT.

DS Arms Para Congo I bought back in 2007 or so.  At the time you could custom order stuff, so I ordered it without the carry handle cut and with a stainless steel lower, all Duracoated flat black. Since then I've added their flip rear para sight (it came with an A2 style rear sight originally) and their para charging handle. Fun gun to shoot.

@TimJ

Very nice.  I recall you posting that one.  How do you like the MMC mount?  Any issues with it holding zero, or with durability?  Any idea how much weight it adds?

Seems like it could be a good option to mount a scope but save weight, and I wonder how much lower the rail sits compared to a DSA mount (could be good, potentially, for use with an ACOG on a QD mount).  It also looks like it makes disassembly and reassembly much easier compared to something like a DSA mount.

It's definitely a good-looking rifle.

@2Keylows

Same rifle in all three pics, or different rifles?  I've been tempted to paint mine, but I'm still on the fence about it.  I'd either want to do Rhodie paint or something like your middle picture (sand or light tan color with a drab green of some sort).  I'm liking the natural finish wear that's been developing due to use on the Parkerized finish, though.

I took this pic for a submission to the Brownell's Sunday Gun Day contest.  Also did it with my Hi Power.  I took six pictures, one pair with the piston removed so it can be in a free State configuration, one pair with a blocked magazine and mag lock, and one pair with a blocked magazine and mag block with a piece welded on to block the mag catch pivot screw.  One pic in each pair with an extra mag, and one with my Hi Power.  I didn't like how the detachable mag ones came out, though.  The ones below have the magazine lock and blocked mag.  What do y'all think?

@bigstick61
Same rifle just changed paint up over the last 2 years.
Rhodie colors are the most current.

Do it man, it's hard to mess up paint jobs. Elbow grease and some paint stripper and your back to square one.
Mark over at Arizona Response sells an awesome and accurate Rhodesian paint kit.

Both pics look great, I'm partial to the one with the High Power though.

Good to see another Fal user in Cali. I used to live there and know exactly what your going through.

I wish I had thought to crop the photo before submitting it.  Looks much better that way.  Unfortunately, there's a wall next to that rock now that forced me to use the perspective that I did, as opposed to what I used several years ago taking a picture of my other FAL and Hi Power (back when the bullet button was still allowed here), as seen in the second picture below.

A de-banned Century L1A1 on an IMBEL receiver.  The wood and lower could stand a little TLC but not all of them have to pristine.
