| Did Ruger make any PC Carbines in .40SW? I keep hearing mixed stories. I'd like to find one of they did. Ditched most of my .40 Pistols except a couple Glocks. And I've got a ton of ammo stocked. Would be nice to shoot it up in a carbine. |

Ruger made their PC carbine in 9mm and .40s&w twice. First with the original Police Carbine produced from 1996 to 2006 that looked very much like a 10/22 and then again when they reintroduced the PCC in 2017. The first version, the PC9 and PC4 was limited to 10rd mags because it was produced during the AW ban from 1994 to 2004 that limited mags to 10rds except by law enforcement. In addition, there were 2 different models of the PC4, the standard PC4 with a barrel mounted rear sight and the PC4GR with a Ghost Ring rear sight at the rear of the receiver. The Second and current version, the PCC was made in 9mm and .40s&w until lack of workers during the Covid Pandemic in late 2021 and early 2022 forced Ruger to concentrate on their 9mm PCC version which always sold more units that the .40s&w version. All throughout 2022, they kept the .40s&w models in their catalogue but didn't produce them, however, in January, 2023, Ruger dropped them as models from their lineup. I recently acquired a former Police Carbine PC4GR produced in 1998, and bought by the Columbia, TN PD but never issued. I got it with 5ea new 11rd restricted LEO Only mags that still had their paper labels on them. The carbine was never fired as I disassembled it to clean it and found zero wear marks on the internals and Ruger's shipping grease all dried up after 25 years of sitting in their arms room. I slightly enlarged the rear ghost ring to allow me to insert an aperture from a tang sight I had that allows for much more precise aiming. With the rear sight on the rear of the receiver, the sight radius is some 70% longer than with the barrel mounted version which allows me to accurately shoot it even out at 100yds. However, both the old and new versions of the PC4 and PC9 have a limited practical range of about 100yds because the 9mm and .40s&w's ballistics fall off rather dismally out past about 125 yds. My PC4GR is a fun gun, not some tactical piece as I'm not into that, so as a plinker and range toy it's a fun gun. I handload and have made up 155grn, 165grn and 180grn loads using Power Pistol that I'll chrono when the weather is warmer to see how the .40s&w performs compared to BBI's testing with the commercial pistol ammo they used. |
