Kinda janky backyard testing as the slomo was almost pointless in that numerous times the jetting seen during live fire wasn't present in the slomo footage; at least for the FireTeam 556. Anyways, it shows that the B&T sparks like a mofo and the Griffin/FireTeam cans perform well with the FireTeam slightly edging out the Griffin in less jetting but at the cost of gassing the trigger operator out.

As an owner of both the idea that the Rhodie is in any way above an ST is simply silly. The Rhodie is a fine can. It ought to be it’s just a bastardized CAT design. The ST is simply the better can. The only reason to get the Rhodie is if one is willing to spend exactly $900 on a can and insists on not saving up $140 more for the better product.

The Rhodie line shines in their K (and I’m sure J) model. For me the 6K is the current K can to beat. The Tisha I’m sure edges it out a bit on 10.5’s or thereabouts but is rapidly eclipsed as length increases and is considerably less flexible in terms of optimal pressure regimens. Despite my reservations with Ridgeback Defense as a company I am smitten by their 6K and hope they continue to push out cans like it.

I'd love to hear some real world feedback on the st. Seems pretty thin outside of influencers. I'd fully intended to get one when they came out but the weight has me hesitating.

It sounds better, I’m positive it would test better @ pewscience if RD had the balls to test it, it has about the same backpressure, and it handles gas stacking better.

The ways we rate suppressors, the ST does them better. The only reason to get the rhodie is it’s .5” shorter and $150 cheaper. I only have both because I have lots of cans, it looks cool, I do consider the Rhodie to be a nice can too, and it came out first.

They actually send their stuff to pewscience for testing, so you can see objectively how it compares against competition. The cliffs notes will be that it’s incredibly competitive for muzzle-side sound, with some tuning will be just as competitive with ejection port-side sound, and handles flow great. It’s the full-size 6mm can to beat, and CAT in general makes a very good product.

If you think the influencer hype is hard to weed through with CAT you’re going to hate finding info on ridgeback products. In place of data they pump money into influencer promotions. Look them up and all you’ll find is a sea of distributors selling their cans saying they’re great, and a sea of fat YouTube ‘influencers’ that were given the can for free that say it’s great. Fuck all that, they do that because they know objectively it won’t hold up to competition. Same with Exigent. They both make a fine can and while you can do a lot worse, it’s not the top dog either.

Where Ridgeback beats CAT imo is in their K can. The CAT KK is fine, I’d call it about equal to the Echocore Compact but it trades extra sound suppression for lower flow. Neither really blow my hair back, though I went with the Echocore.

But the Rhodie 6K is really just a very superb can. It’s been said, and I agree, that the 6K is 90% of the full-size in a 4.5” package. Pair it with a RPA and recessed brake and it’ll only extend 4.5” past a flush-fit handguard, and for the added size it simply can’t be beat.

At least until the FOR RAE5K comes out. I have nothing to substantiate this, but I believe it may beat the 6k and be the new top K can. Except if you only shoot 10.5” or so, in which case the Tisha is geared heavily towards that higher pressure regimen and will probably the top performer in that domain for the next while.

Now that the Rhodie 6J is coming out, which to get next, the Rhodie 6J, 6k, or 6?  Really thinking of the 6J.

6j gives you the option of the shorter barrel as compared to the 10.3 on the 6k. Are you going to beat the snot out of it?

I have the OCL Infinity 556k that will spend some time on a 7.5" barreled setup , so that's why I went that direction. I have considered heavily on the Rhodie 6k for a 13.7" setup also.

Whatever I get will most likely end up on a 14.5 SD, more of a Recce type set up.

Funny you say that since the CAT is basically a bastardized Thermal Defense or SilencerCo Velos design.  CAT definitely did not pioneer these designs.

I disagree. I too own an original trek. I got it way back when a place (don't remember who) was blowing them out for like $210 or something like that. It was an ok can back then but today it is a loud and gassy high back pressure beast and there is way better options out there. Mine sits back in the safe.

I am manufacturer agnostic.

Been in the can game since abt 2014, have over 20 cans.

There are a LOT of great designs nowadays and we are lucky to have these choices.  Nobody can own everything, just too many products in the market place.

I am a PS member and appreciate Jay’s data (but he can’t keep up with all the cans people want to know about, even if he didn’t charge for his service), but I also look for data via the TBAC Silencer Summit (which has a LOT of cans but far from everything), etc.

I bought a Rhino X just to try it.  Liked it.  Bought Rhodie 6, then a R6Ti.

The Ridgeback cans are impressive performers.

Got to spend several days on the range over the past several weeks and got to do some can comparisons with what I have and what other people brought out.  Velos 556, Flow 556k, Saw Ekron, RC2, Sig SRD556 (?), Sionics MCTR, AAC M4-2000.

The only one of those that was on par with Rhodie 6 and Rhino X was the Ekron.  It’s an amazing can.

A friend just ordered several KAC cans, and a R6k.  Can’t wait to experience those in person.

Want to experience a Tisha, Fireteam, etc in person but haven’t been able to yet.

As to marketing, copying someone else’s homework, influences, etc . . . I’ve been in the game long enough to have an idea of how Barry Dueck got his start before he went to Surefire, how AAC and Surefire quite viciously went back and forth with each other,  how Griffin “emulated” KAC products, how Q claims to have invented things that they didn’t bc some of the Euro manufacturers been doing that stuff for some time, how PTR is suing over 3D printing, etc. Etc. Etc ad nauseum.  And those are just SOME of the controversies that immediately come to mind.

This is the golden age of suppressors.  Buy what you want.   Don’t get caught up in drama.

Saw that last week. FWIW i actually appreciate his videos. He has no AGB, and routinely gives you some what of an idea with different buffer weights and gas systems.

I'm finding a way to get one of the new griffin AM cans for a truck gun rebuild/repurpose lol

The silencer tech argument that the great technology comes out of a complete vacuum is likely to be fantasy.

KAC circa 1993 hired Doug Olson (perhaps the best suppressor engineer in the entire history of suppressors) and he had been repairing suppressors during Vietnam era at Crane, and then working a bunch of military suppressor development projects at Qual ATec, and then working suppressors at AWC, before KAC.  So he had seen all the military systems inside and out in the 60-70’s era, and had all the time with suppressors prior to that. The guy is still working and he’s got like 63 years of experience in suppressors. Contrary to the hopeful hipster opinions of 1 year companies you don’t get worse at something by having more experience in it.

He went on to wilson combat, Surefire, and LMT later, leaving some suppressor development at all three companies.

I would argue none of the cans mentioned in this thread work the same or are identical.  The closest tech was the first 15 years of surefire to ops inc.

Also if you pin guage a Rhodie “6” its bore diameter is .281 which is a normal bore for 5.56mm.  So its a really high volume 556 can marketed in class with 6mm cans that have exit apertures closer to .300”

One of the ways these designs differ tremendously is that the older companies are trying to design things that don’t carbon up and become conventional cans with short time use.  So when you have .04 holes in low pressure areas thats a can that might perform great new, and become a conventional can in 2500 rounds.  A military can is going to get run 25000 rds maybe in a month with a unit like marsoc.   So its not apples to apples to compare 2500 rds with something that can go the distance functionally.

Dunno what you’re laughing about but you’re only showing your own ignorance. They post all the raw data in standardized units for anyone to see or verify. If you have a problem with the data you’re welcome to invalidate it. Other external labs have tested under the same parameters and have found boringly consistent results, as one would expect with scientific methodologies.

What do you mean by ‘these designs’? I think you’re being a bit broad. They have annular vents? They screw onto the end of the barrel?

I think the Rhino series is an evolutionary dead end that will end up being remembered as the Rhodie Gen 1. I don’t see a reason to get a Rhino X over any Rhodie variant. I actually forgot the Rhino X existed until I saw this post.

The corkscrew style bypass venting that CAT uses has been around a long time, but the oldest can I have seen cut open that shows the easily identifiable shape is the Thermal Defense Bantam, which has roots in designs from Oak Ridge National Laboratory dating back to 2008.   The SilencerCo Velos came out in 2023 and has even closer design elements to what people are claiming is a "CAT design".

Tisha.

It’s just hard to explain how a can this small can sound like this. Yes it’s ugly. Don’t care, it flat out smokes everything else.
