Okay, I just found out Savage has a new "Verion 2" (V2) for their 110 Scout model. I don't care for the looks and really liked the older 110 Magpul Scout. Fortunately, I found one and ordered it. I have an older Savage 10 Scout (DBM magazine) with a Leupold LER scope. I have a Mossberg MVP with LPVO (conventional eye-relief) I have an M1A-Bush model (pre-Scout) set up with a Scout mount and Aimpoint (not a bolt gun, but fills that scout role) Now I'm considering what optics I would like to put on the Magpul Scout. I do want to keep the iron sights and whatever optic I choose, have QD rings or mount to make them quickly accessible. I'm leaning away from a LER scope right now and as much as I like red dots, I'm thinking more on the lines of a powered prism optic (ala ACOG) or another LPVO. Just looking for thoughts, recommendations, and suggestions. While price-point isn't a major concern, I kind of want to keep it reasonably under $1K. I do have an ACOG TA110 (LED battery version) that might very well be a good option if the eye relief works and it clears the rear sight. Never considered an ACOG for a "scout bolt" rifle, but that might be an oddly good marriage...  ROCK6 |

I was looking at the Leather but have the HD line a chance. Leather seems like a good scope though. |

Yeah, I have one of the discontinued Leupold Scouts and it's a very good optic, sucks to see it discontinued. I took the Savage Scout out and zeroed the scope (still no damn word from Savage on getting a replacement rear iron sight) and did a few drills. The bolt was a little stick, lubed it up and she smoothed out. I was running a Griffin Armament EXPLORR 300 suppressor. Zeroed okay, the Warne rings are REALLY LOW, I can just barely go a piece of paper between the scope and rail. The reticle is decent, but as I already knew the center dot is pretty big; you won't be doing any precision shooting with it. That said, my one group at 50 yeards had all three round touching. Very impressive as I'm not much of a match-type shooter, mostly a "minute of pie plate" guy. Oh, and the ammo was some surplus ammo of unknown origins. The reticle wasn't bad and I could ring steel at 250 yards, but I didn't really measure groups (I was lazy, that's a long walk in knee high grass soaked in dew and about 90+ percent humidity!). At 1X and the red dot on, it was actually pretty good and acted like a typical RDS. The eye-relief was good, but a little jumpy until I kind of settled in did several snap shots, bringing the rifle up and getting consistent cheek welds. The 5X was much better than I expected, but you had to really keep her steady; not something I could "snap shoot" at any distance, but if I settled down it was a decent amount of magnifcation for longer shots (longest I was able to shoot was 250 yards). I'm good for now but would recommend if you want more scout-rifle precision at distances out to 300 yards, a finer reticle (like the the Leatherwood) would probably be a better choice. I'll get a pic up later and you'll see my missing rear sight  ROCK6 |
