Wanting to nab myself a pump action, and the lightweight nature of the Nova 3 along with the MLok foregrip have got me quite interested in one of the Nova 3 Tacticals. I'm also just a fan of the Benelli ghost ring sights. Anybody have time on one to say how they are? I imagine the light weight makes it rougher on recoil than a comparable 590, like the 7-shot 590A1. I'd prefer the Nova still due to having a top rail and the ghost ring sights, and the lightweight would make it more pleasant to hike with. I did see that they have a newer Super Nova 3 with a collapsible stock (though I only see Xtreme Guns and Ammo stocking it), so I don't expect anyone to have hands on with one of those yet. |

The Nova is a utilitarian gun without much aftermarket support. The nice thing is that it really doesn't need much. It's extremely durable with much of the exposed parts being plastic. I had a nickel plated version that I thought would be excellent around water. The Mlok rail (on certain Nova 3 guns) is an excellent upgrade and addresses the light mounting issue for the Nova. Nobody makes a integral forend with a light. I do think Benelli hampers the platform by making their spare barrels so expensive. Otherwise I think they would be more popular. I do believe many Mossberg 500, Rem 870, & Win 1300 were sold because you could get a bird gun and pick up a spare 18.5" barrel for HD use. It's almost cheaper to buy a second Benelli pump than a spare factory barrel. Most people aren't looking for a second shotgun. The appeal of a shotgun it how much different shooting you can do with it. I have an original Nova LE trade in with ghost ring sights. It was cheap enough that I got it with the intention of being a truck gun. I have always loved shotguns and can't pass a cheap on up. I also have a Supernova LE trade in with rifle sights that came with a collapsible stock. I've always liked the look of the collapsible stock, so I got it to try out. It helped that I had play money burning a hole in my pocket. In the past, I have the nickel plated Nova, but ended up trading it for the next must have item. At the time I traded it, there wasn't factory nickel magazine extensions available, other I may still have it. I may have traded it for a Winchester 1200 marine-finish gun. So unless I find a Nova 3 dirt cheap, I don't have a need for one personally. But I wouldn't pass it up if it interest you. Not much has changed on the Nova 3, but I do think the fixed stock will limit some interest in the base guns. It's nice to see there is an optional collapsible stock versioni. Many love the collapsible stock on the Benelli guns, so I do personally like the Supernova for that as a standard option. Even if the stocks are pricey. I do like the Mlok option on the Nova 3, but it isn't enough to make me switch. Maybe it can swing someone without a Nova into that platform (along with the black multicam finish option) over an earlier model. All the Nova platforms are pretty similar in features. They just change it to bring a renewed interest in the platform with minor changes. I'd keep an eye out for a LE trade-in as they are the best value for the money. Very low round counts for the most part with some finish wear. I paid less than $275 for the Nova, and $450ish for the Supernova with collapsible stock (which is why I paid more). Both were purchased in the last few years. I also found an inexpensive field comfort stock (rubber cheek rest) to switch out on the Supernova is I get bored with the collapsible stock. I probably could sell the collapsible stock and really make the Supernova a pretty cheap option. |
