Hi, I have an early Gen 1 blued Python that has a little damage to its barrel. I was able to find a NOS barrel that I’m wanting to swap onto it. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this swap or tips that you could share on swapping it? |
| How early? Up till about '65-'66 the lug on the pythons was hollow. If you have that early of a Python it will be almost imposible to find one. Unless the replacement one you have is a hollow lug. But the solid lug bbls will fit. What is the nature of the damage to the bbl on it currently? Colt will no longer work on the older Pythons.....Frank Glenn would be capable but is retired I think. May try 10 ring precision in Texas or visit the Colt Forum for advice.....I had a bbl replaced due to cracked forcing cone YEARS ago but Colt did it. Replaced a hollow lug w/ a solid as that was all that was available. Good Luck! |

If you want this done and want it done RIGHT, talk to Frank Glenn. He's a Master pistolsmith who is one of the few who can do Colt work to Colt factory specifications and standards. You don't risk an original Python on some Billy Bob, and way too many are Billy Bob's. |
