This is what used to be a Marlin 30AW. Still going to get one of those overpriced quivers. ETA in keeping with OPs request for information to be included: -Marlin 30AW -RPP Aluminum M-Lok rail -Mason Leather Cartridge Cuff (Coal color) -Mason leather sling not shown -Marlin big loop -Holosun 503gu? dot -Don't remember scope rail manufacturer -Barrel cut by local shop to 16 1/2", and threaded -Q Cherry bomb -Q plan B -YHM Resonator R2 -swapped the stock to a youth stock -magpul qd attachment -Lucky Charms figurine, drilled to make into a keychain

I sorta went the opposite direction with a PSA AR themed lower. Instead of retro to newer styling, we took the newer AR platform and went retro Lever. Not for everyone I know, but we are working on a more practical design. A lever action stock conversion assembly for forged lowers. Attached File |

 Got them out to shoot for a few minutes today (given the availability of ammo - a few minutes is all the shots I wanted to shoot). Got the Marlin into the x-ring at 20 yards, then proceeded to drop 5 shots in the black with the S&W. It is very pleasing acoustically when suppressed (abet the 38spl is nicer unsuppressed). It put a large smile on my face. The group with the S&W amazed me - I doubt 5 shots with the Marlin would have looked much better. |

I decided to experiment with a direct mounting option for the Deltapoint Pro. As someone mentioned previously, Leupold does offer a baseplate for this, but I went with the Skinner Sights plate since it's the lowest on the market. I'm going to get some range time in to try it out, but first impressions are that although the height over bore is dramatically reduced, the change to my cheek/chin weld on the stock is negligible (probably due to having a massive sasquatch skull). We'll see how she plays. Going to fiddle with the mount a bit more, as well, as it appears to be canted to the left ever so slightly. Wondering if this could be due to crooked receiver threads. It is a "Remlin". Maybe Ruger will do it better. Picture thread...

It will work, but I want to get a taller fiber optic front, like in this article (Link)... Probably shoots about a foot and a half high right now at 50 yards with the current one. Still experimenting with setup. Mainly wanted to test the lower height with the red dot first to see if I prefer it over the XS rail setup. |

The Skinner mounting plate and DPP rear iron sight was more of an experiment, than anything else, but for me, I don't know that I see the benefit unless you absolutely must have the lowest profile setup out there. Change to my chin/cheek weld on the stock was negligible and I do prefer the rear ghost ring setup on the XS rail over the DPP iron. I'm still waiting to do some more testing with it, but am leaning towards switching back to the XS rail. DPP is slightly higher, but it works for me. Trying to get a line on some Hornady Leverevolution to test bullet drops with my Aimpoint LPI IR laser next. |

I started playing around with a few different configurations for the LPI and also added an Inforce WML-X (IR). Still a work in progress, to include switch placement, but the one big takeaway was that with the lower Skinner mounting plate, there was a fair amount of noise out front in the sight picture. Since I was already leaning toward reverting back to the XS rail, this made it an easy decision. By bumping the DPP back up to XS height, there are no more visual interuptions. The height difference, to me, is hardly noticeable. Regarding the LPI, I was quite happy I was able to dig up this little fatty and give her new life. She's got the most crisp dot of any of the lasers in inventory, and when mounted to the 1:30 slot, the beam is perfectly in-line with the bore. I'll have to keep a closer eye on zero and bullet drop with the heavier 45-70, but it should do a nice job for anything inside 100 yards. Here are some pics...
