thanks i also came up with a list while digging on another forum , looks like the OM are common , not sure about the year or viet nam era in wrap though , will have to do some digging through my collection , but not certain if i have any OM , and thge price was right , both for $95 |

received the mags and things were not adding up ,so with mags in hand i started investigating , downloaded this free E-Book from Lulu which has a amazing trust score and is a great reference for M14 mags https://www.lulu.com/shop/lee-emerson/pictorial-m14-magazine-identification-guide-version-19/ebook/product-22539324.html?page=1&pageSize=4 some issues 1),,,only 7 faint spot welds on body spine , should be 11 2),,,no OM stamp on left side of follower 3),,, latch plate has 6 spot welds , should only have 5 4),,,the OM stamp on mag body is towards the center of the mag where it should be almost at the bottom and lastly a archived thread at the M14 forum that describes the exact mag in the exact packaging with identical writing being described as " a mysterious origin fake "GI" magazine. It's not genuine USGI contract manufacture" https://www.m14forum.com/threads/winchester-magazine-question.101825/ so bummer for me , and i dug through all of my M14 mags i did not have any OM mags , contacted the vendor who ive dealt with for decades and they are going to make it right , i gave them all the info and am giving them time (few days) to prove that they are real if they can ,or at least do their own deep dive i know there is a way to tell by the spring i cant tell one spring from another |

Hate to see you get burned, but you are not the only one who has had this happen. When I first picked up my M-14 clone at the end of 2006 I ended up buying multiple "G.I." mags only to find out later on they were fakes. However, that being said, all but one has worked without issue. Several of mine were also in government looking wrapping. Eventually ended up buying several Check Mate mags. |

they did right by me ,and after they assessed all the info they agreed and apologized , rather than the hassle of a return and throwing more money at shipping we came to a agreement where i hang onto them and they refunded a lions share of what i initially paid , so i decided to take the chance that they would run fine hearing that most of yours did i am optimistic i ended up with some usable bench mags very cheap in new condition another red flag i forgot to mention was the spot welds on the follower , suppose to have 3 round , mine have 3 oval shaped , when i get time i will take pics of all the discrepancies and lay them out so folks will see the issues i wouldnt say i got burned , i just didnt get the in wrap vintage mags i was hoping for |

I remember when Lee (Different was his screen name) published that. Between Lee and another veteran from Mass or CT iirc, (cannot recall his name unfortunately, he may have passed on but he used to hit the regional gun shows selling parts) they exposed a lot of shenanigans. Lots of counterfeit wrappings with bogus date systems, Cage codes, NSNs etc. There was a host of bad and fake part sellers, George ‘s company iirc was one that always had rare hard to find parts that were invariably forgeries. Mostly carbine and garand parts then iirc, like the flip sight. I wish I could remember his business name but I am at a loss this morning. I don’t care that people sell reproduction parts as long as they sell them as such and not ripping off unsuspecting buyers. The fake wrapper thing was pretty much an asian made thing iirc. I am glad you were made whole by the seller. Edit….Bill Ricca was the other fountain of knowledge. |
The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.

That is great that the seller did the right thing and made things right for you. Not a lot of that anymore it seems. Looking foreword to the pictures. I was going to mention counting the welds on all the parts, but you had mentioned it before I found your post. That is how I discovered mine were not genuine G.I. Edit. And I just saw your new post on the mags. |
