Somehow today my feed picked up a video of the now discontinued Chiappa Triple Threat break open shotgun. Expensive and limited to three shots, but as a double barrel user that doesn't bother me that much. Well, the expensive part does...
Charles Daly apparently got the rights to make the same gun, and AI review says they are pretty good...and apparently the same high price tags for the various models. Weird for that company, but OK. What I wondered, and AI says nobody did, but wouldn't it be interesting if someone made a three round speedloader, drop in, shells drop loose, flick it off to the side like a revolver speed loader. Yeah, awkward to keep on your belt, not real practical, but I don't think there is very much on this gun that screams "practical", to be honest. It's a toy. Since it has extractors and no ejectors, the chambers would need to be high polished to shuck the rounds like cowboy action shooters with a double barrel, if that would work with this gun. If nothing else, what a movie gun, guy with a bandolier of three round speedloaders and a Triple Threat shotgun. I can't even blame alcohol for this one; I'm stone cold sober... |

| Both the loader and guns are solutions looking for a problem IMHO. That doesn’t mean I haven’t thought seriously about buying one though, and if I did, I would probably get speed loaders and nice leather pouches to hold them. |

| I shot a "3 bird" sporting clays event recently and a guy in my squad had a triple barrel 410. No idea what it was, but it was cool and he shot it well. A speed loader would be cool for it too. |

| A local cowboy action shoot had a guy using a triple. I made him some TPU speedloaders and when I finally got them right, the fudds wouldn't let him use them, EVEN WHEN I RE-printed them in 1/2 woodgrain and 1/2 TPU... |

Yeah...a SASS event wouldn't have allowed it in to begin with. :) As seen with this fat guy, (oh wait, that's me), single or double barrels are all that are allowed in the break open category.  From the SASS rulebook; Any side-by-side or single shot shotgun typical of the period from approximately 1860 until 1899 with or without external hammers, having single or double triggers is allowed. if it wasn't a SASS event, then hey, anything goes. Except NCOWS...they would have literal apoplexy just hearing this suggested. Might be kind of fun to watch. I was just thinking of the same reason we buy some of our guns, the cool/wowee/that's different type of approach. Also, in a place where a repeater might be harder to get for one reason or another, well, maybe a triple barrel might make sense, somehow. In that case, might want some speedloaders. So, without further ado, do you still have them? Can you show what they look like, might be fun to see, thank you. |

With mini-shells, you could shoot that all week. |

When he opened the gun, all three hulls had been fired. The "spicy load" turned out to be two going off at once. I asked the importer if he could put that or all three at once as a feature. He didn't seem too happy about it. |

When was this, and do you remember if it was the Charles Daly version or the Chiappa version? All three at once would be...brutal...on both ends. But again, back to the movies, the back guy slides a fake switch forward and all barrels go off at once, whereupon he reloads with the triple speedloader, kinda like when Blade Runner made the COP derringer fire two barrels per trigger pull. I know, movies aside...it would STILL be cool...if it all worked right. |
