I was doing some nickel plating of nonsense, and I remembered a thread about rusting P365 mags, which I've got, and I've got an LCP MAX mag that has small rust spots all over, so I decided to do a plating run on them. I think they turned out alright, the P365 turned out a little ho-hum, but that was the first one I tried and its a 10 round mag I don't carry anyway. On the LCP, I think it turned out pretty decent, not like I could make it worse. I can't be the first guy to do this. Anyone else plated mags at home? What were your results like over time?

| Is the acid all you had to do to prep the mag bodies? Nothing else to remove rust or the original finish? |

I knocked all the dust and crap off with air, into the acid, cap it, jar sits in ultrasonic cleaner for 20 seconds. After the acid, the metal is profoundly naked, so I drop it into that clear liquid, acetone, to clean the acid off as to not contaminate my nickel electrolyte, and to protect it while I wire it up. There's no elbow grease or mechanical prep necessary. |

Nice work!! I played around with some electroplating pens back in the day. All you needed was a power source and you could lay gold over chrome or brass pretty easily. I have to wonder how durable that is, since I really want to do a SA-35.

One of those P365 mags normally rides in my pocket against a Streamlight and its not got a scratch on it. So its durable enough for me. I'm real close to chimping out and doing that LCP slide.
