I'm getting a new safe that will be going in a unfinished walkout basement. The basement has a framed section under the stairs that will be perfect for the new safe. Questions: 1. Should I drywall the "closet area" where the safe will reside? 2. If so, should I use fire rock? 3. If so, should I add a louvered vent at the top of one of the side walls for circulation? I have dehumidifier that keeps the humidity in the 40 to 50 % range. Is that GTG? I plan on adding a goldenrod in the safe. I also plan on adding a steel door to the front of the "closet". Sound plan or am I missing something? |

For that small area, consider the sheetrock type recommended for bathroom walls and ceilings. It's recommended to use moisture-resistant drywall, often referred to as green board, purple board, or paperless drywall. These types of drywall are designed to withstand the higher humidity levels common in bathrooms, preventing issues like mold and mildew growth. "When you finish the basement make sure the safe is removable thru the basement walk out. Yes.....I've seen safes that were "finished in" and had to go up a flight & half of stairs. Most of them.are eventually left w/ the house." Noted. Thanks |
