I had placed a pre-order with EuroOptic when they were actually shipping the first batch of consumer units. I called them in March after waiting two months and was told "end of May." I canceled my pre-order and grabbed one from a vendor on TacSwap that had proven reliable. |
| All the people that posted about being shocked by its diminutive size were spot on, holy crap. Mine came today after ordering last Thursday or Friday and... wow. I will try it out tonight and playing with 9 and 12 o'clock mounting positions but I'm afraid I will be buying more of them. I've had a shit ton of IR lasers, this one has some serious potential. |

I finally got a chance to take some quick pics of the Villain Weapon Systems diffuser under NODs. I started to do them out in my yard, but honestly the diffuser runs out of steam really quickly in open environments. Indoors, it’s awesome. The distance from camera to wall is about 7 yards. I’m using backup tube, an ancient PVS-7 and a GoPro. It obviously looks better to the actual eye than in the pics. Baseline pic, no artificial illumination. Attached File IRIS on widest divergence, low setting: Attached File IRIS on widest divergence, high setting: Attached File IRIS with VWS diffuser. I didn’t really notice a big difference if it was set on high or low power. Attached File And just for comparison, a TLR-VIR-2 at the same distance:Attached File Overall, I think the VWS diffuser has a a must have for indoors. Without it, even on the widest divergence on the low setting it just overpowers. The diffuser is nearly perfect. Pics of it mounted: Attached File Attached File |

For those asking about light clearance, check out Meteorite Concepts. They make an articulating mount that’s similar to the Pro, but fits standard scout lights. Attached File |

Should ensure I can always get the light in the best position in conjunction with the iris. |

Please post a AAR after the next match too, you did a good write up. |

My IRIS RD3 arrived out of the blue a cpl of days ago (ordered about 7 months ago). The illuminator is ok without being outstanding, form factor is good, lasers appear to have high divergence and multiple diffraction rings. Ok for a feral pest rifle and IR scope. I note the claim for laser divergence is 0.5 mrad (compared to <0.3 mrad for a NGAL) which is fairly crude by current standards. Fortunately the IR laser isn't overcooked and as a consequence bloom is minimal. Indoors/short range the IRIS has insufficient divergence in the absence of a diffuser (1 degree to 7 degree spread - although to be fair there are many options for indoor IR illumination) and has relatively poor cut through of photonic barriers in a suburban streetscape environment. To be frank I was expecting more given the reviews. IMHO it seems youtube reviews by some "guntubers" are at best misleading and often reflect narrow focus or narrow/limited experience base. I'll post up some images comparing IRIS - C1+ and a high end VCSEL system - showing the difference in performance where there are plenty of photonic barriers. |

I don't have an IR camera, nor do I have experience with higher end units, but I think your iris might be a bit anemic compared to the one I have. I'll attempt (meaning try to remember lol) to get photos through my pvs-14 comparing the IRIS to my perst-3 in the next few days (the perst is mostly to provide a known quantity to compare against). Idk, I might find out that I'm wrong, but I definitely feel like in my VERY limited time with the IRIS it seems more powerful than what you've posted. I agree that the illuminator divergence isn't quite what I'd want, I don't need the narrowest setting and I'd like 2-3 more clicks on the top end. Deal breaker? No, at least not for me, but it could be improved. Maybe it's bc I'm s scrub but I don't think I'd be using the laser beyond 100m, so theoretically the 1.7" (.5 mrad) vs 1" (.3 mrad) divergence at that distance shouldn't be a huge problem- doesn't mean I wouldn't like it to be better. I think the IRIS is a huge step in the right direction for the civilian LAM market, but I hope it's just the beginning, and not the end point. |

I took these photos within about a minute of each other, in an entirely real world situation. I think its important to present real world data in real world situations. On a dark night and in the absence of other photonic sources the IRIS works fine. In bright light environments and close quarter environments it doesn't work well. To most this won't matter but to some it will. I think this is a fair statement. In close you need a 40 degree to 60 degree option, short to short/medium around 10 degrees. The IRIS offers around 2 to 7 degrees. Again, and depending what you may or may not be involved in, this may not matter. Edit: Forgot to add the IR laser is not centered wrt the illuminator, in my unit its way off to the top left. |

I mean, in that picture and in my experience using it through standard lumen photonic barriers like outdoor lighting the IRIS gets the job done fine. I could still ID things like what's in the person's hands or their general clothing and appearance for PID. At the weight savings over the MAWL and the size advantage a reasonable guy could certainly conclude the IRIS was a better option for them even if price were equal. |

I'd prefer to see through the photonic barrier and clearly see what was on the other side - couldn't do this with the IRIS*, the photos are pretty definitive. Fine in front of an IR scope on a 223 for feral pests in dark broad acre farmland. Each to their own. *EDIT* In a fairly standard streetscape with non-Na streetlights and shaded vegetation behind photonic barriers as per photos. Keep in mind the IR illuminator in a MAWL C1+ is ~ 67mW, DA ~ 150mW, DAGIR V1 ~ 350mW. However, there is a big price point differential for many reasons. EDIT 2: The IR laser is well off centre far to the left relative to the illuminator, not a little a lot. Very noticeable if the illuminator divergence is reduced. This isn't acceptable in my view. |

| I had an odd situation happen the other day and I’m curious if anybody else has had a similar experience. I have a couple of the iris 3 green laser versions and I was playing around with the viz green laser at night a few days ago on one of them. I turned on the laser and it stuck on and would not turn off. Pressing the button on the iris or my unity modbutton lite would not turn it off, and even turning the switches on the back of the iris to the off or the other to IR would not turn off the green laser. The only way I got it to turn off was to remove the battery cap to completely disconnect the power. So far, that hasn’t happened again, but it’s shaken my faith a little bit in the iris. Has anybody else encountered anything similar? |

I don't tie mine together and I changed out the original remote pad on mine with a Raid switch to get rid of the stupid vis override. |

My IRIS has a new home. Actually works pretty well. I can open up the illuminator decently wide before the reflection off the suppressor becomes an issue. Attached File |

My IRIS4 just arrived. I have only tried in the house, but this thing might be a game changer. The unit is very small and light weight. I have watched some videos about it which all seem to be pretty good. At $900, if this unit performs 75% of the what the MAWL and other high end LAMS do, it is the answer for 90% of us... |

@chaas67 I only used it in the house as I have a 9 week old puppy right now. It has a nice pattern inside my house. It is not on the level of a Modlite or similar as it is listed at 825 lumens and 25,000 candella. The temperature of the light was nice and not too blue. You can run 18650 or 123's which is nice. The selling point is having an all in one device in a very light and compact format. I still think the MAWL beats everything ergonomically concerning the switches, but at $900, this is tits! |

I tested out my IRIS4 last night. I am really happy with it over all. I think it is the best thing going right now for under $1k. One thing that I don't like is that the mode switch is a little difficult to manipulate, but I don't know that you really need to change modes very often IRL. The good thing is that dual low IR illuminator and laser is at 12 o'clock and high is at 3 o'clock so, you can easily identify those positions in the dark |

Well I broke down and got an iris, zeroed it Sunday with the green laser. Its gonna be a bot before I can try it at night, well with ammo. I just played with it some and for the whole 100 yards of view I have at my house it works very well. Yes I feel the mode switches are tough to move, with gloves I don't think it would be possible. Any one want to buy a v 1 and a v2 sms so I can buy another iris. Just kidding ( maybe ) but I do like having the white light on the sms might try the 4 in one iris. |

Someone with more savvy than I should 3D print an extension lever for the mode switch. It was sub zero temps when I zeroed mine, and I could not manipulate the switch with gloves. |
