I put an awful scratch on my Thompson today. This is a Kahr made 1927A1 that is "blued". Is there a way to repair the scratch with cod blue, that won't look like someone just drew on it with a marker? Also, I got a horizontal handguard and would like it to match the rest of the wood. It looks unfinished. Any ideas how to make it match?  Overall pic because Thompsons are cool.  |

Could re-blue the whole thing. I parkerized mine. But mine is an M1 not the '27. The stock can be stained to match. Check the profile of the inletting to make sure it matches the semi-auto barrel. If the handguard is USGI the Kahr grip rail will not fit it properly. Also, over on the machinegun boards they are looking into getting the correct profile knobs made. |

Ford’s gun refinishing does good blueing jobs. But they are not cheap and usually have a backlog. https://www.fordsguns.com The wood fore end would be an easy job, especially if you are going darker in color. Orange stripper and green scotch brite to get to the original wood. Don’t need sandpaper. Minwax stain in sample cans tested on the barrel channel where it can’t be seen. Each type of wood takes stain differently. For cold blue on the scratch, might work. Cold blue, then take a piece of scotch brite and gently take light wipes across the touch up in the direction of the machine marks. |
