DOJ Plans Deep Cut to ATF Investigators

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is planning to cut Industry Operations Investigators (IOIs) by nearly two-thirds, according to news reports. A DOJ FY 26 budget proposal details plans to slash 541 of the 800 IOIs. That move would reduce the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive (ATF) overall costs by $468 million. The proposal comes as the Trump administration still considers merging the ATF with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). According to the proposal, budget savings would come from reductions related to overall personnel and operations cuts, including slashing another 470 positions through attrition of both agents and support personnel. Side note, who thinks if the BBB or whatever its called goes through the way we want it to, Cans and SBRs come off the list, that with the next Dem admin, they will come for them federally or in the States???
