Is the Haley Strategic Flatpack. It usually is always with me whether Im headed to work, or as in the case today, just out and about. The pack had provided amazing functionality and ability to tailor itself to whatever I need it be. I have it currently as compacted, none of the expandable portions are open.  The main compartment when not expanded holds a 3 litre camel aka and field stripped MRE. Under that is 3 AR mags and a boo boo kit that I can swap out for different medical needs.   In the secondary compartment I keep a poncho that fits with no issues.  I put a secondary pouch on the loop portion of the pack. Its empty now but its great for little mission essential items like batteries.  The small pouch carries a g43 and reload some days, but today its a Ranger purse with 550 cord in it.  |
Ive also set it up for use with a beaver tail so I can stow my helmet and not have to wear it all the time. And if I have to explain the axe you wont get it.  I also went for the upgraded backpack which has made a huge difference in how the pack wears. The padded arm straps not so much, but that back pad is money.  Then right back on and off it goes.  Ive used it for an assault pack, keeping just a camel back in it and tucking it under the main flap of my ruck. Then at the patrol base it can be outfitted for actions on the objective and I can go about my merry little way. All in all I think it is my most used pack by far. |

Having a small, easy to grab, versatile pack is a good thing. I like the Hill People Gear Tarahumara - it's a big smaller than the pack you got. But small, simple, and I like that I can carry 2 water bottles in it. I added a small simple zipper pouch that was off of a Mystery Ranch pack as an admin pouch, and a MOLLE II buttpack (which fits on top longways, centered, under the straps perfectly) if I want to add more capacity. But same idea as you have. |

Well thought out, nice one OP. If I can piggyback on this I’d also add a benefit of having a smaller pack on hand is that it forces you to think about what you really need, what’s nice to have, and what’s a relative luxury item. When we have empty space we tend to rationalize a way to fill it and suddenly we’ve crammed a lot of stuff into a 60L when it may not be worth the weight or bulk tradeoff. There’s a clear purpose and discipline to what I’m seeing in this pack and I’d imagine the (somewhat) limited size helped to clarify that. |

What mag insert is that? I have a 14L LBT bag I bought on sale and have never used, seems like a good candidate for an assaultish pack. It's got full velcro interior on the inside back, been considering a single or double* mag insert on the left and right and a 48oz Nalgene in the middle with a drinking hose as a hard camelback. Easier to clean and harder to rupture. OP, does your pack have an outlet for the drinking tube or do you run it through the zippers? My big LBT pack does (and I only use that for traveling  ) but this one does not.*Double flapped pouch with one wrap through the molle should work and then the mags are secure from other stuff in the pack. My lower front pocket will just barely zip over 3 40 round PMags, 3 and a Glock stick to fill it up fit better. I bet an insert to keep 3 mags lined up would fit perfectly, wouldn't even need velcro to match up to. 🤔 |

I bet an insert to keep 3 mags lined up would fit perfectly, wouldn't even need velcro to match up to. 🤔 Mag insert is a spiritus  There is an option to run a hydration hose out of a port on the bag  You access it through the interior zipper of the main compartment   I mainly run the hydration line out of the main pack and just zip it up. Ive never had issue with the zippers letting loose. If I know im doing a lot of moving or running or whatever the hose stays in the bag. |

When I’ve tried a similarly tightly packed load in mine, it rounds and just seems to kinda turn in to a burrito. I assume that black back-panel prevents that? Your use looks well thought out and is what I kinda envisioned with mine but just never seemed to work out. |

I felt the same way about my Haley and it sat unused for a time until I incorporated it onto one of my Crossfire DZ rigs. It rides perfectly on the DZ rig and is just the right addition to carry a 2 liter bladder and any additional snivel gear, food, etc |

It made the pack much more useful. Same as above. |
