A little something from my past. Paco Kelly’s Leverguns book sold me on the idea of a 219 Zipper built on a M94 action. But as a varmint cartridge, it had to have a scope. My solution? Marry the front wood/metal and the buttstock/trigger mechanism from a 64A with the receiver of a 94AE. With an NRA Centennial rifle in hand for the 64A parts, and a pre-crossbolt safety 94AE, I built the parts together. Sent it off to a Wyoming gunsmith (now lost to memory), he rebarreled the action to Zipper, 26” long. But what to do with the hole in the stock which had held the NRA crest? Got it. Fill the hole with a silver dollar dated to the year of the build: 1994. Topped it off with a Leupold 3-9 EFR returned to the factory for target knobs. Pity it resides in a safe and can’t be appreciated on a daily basis.
