Hello, Id like to remove the factory recoil pad from my wooden 590 stock and replace it with a plastic buttplate. My goal is reduce the stock length a little and replace the grippy rubber pad with a hard old style pad that doesn't grip my clothing so much when I'm shouldering the shotgun. The shotgun is a Mossberg 590 retrograde 20" with wooden furniture. I've read that these universal pads are good but unsure which one fits best. https://gungrip.com/universalbuttplates.aspx Any advice would be appreciated. I was hoping to find a older Mossberg branded pad on eBay but I'm not sure what models share the same screw pattern as the retrograde. Thanks. |

Yes I'm probably overthinking this and it's some standard/common size. I pulled the spacer off the stock and will measure the screw hole spacing and look for a aftermarket option with the same pattern and go from there. I did noticed that one of the screw holes was stripped a little and someone (I'm the second owner) shoved a toothpick in the hole so the screw would hold. I'm guessing it was a factory oops/fix since the gun is entirely stock and the previous owner had it as a safe queen. |

Another option would be a piece of brass. 3/16 or 1/4 thick. Not horrible to work with hand tools and a cordless drill. Cut/file some lines or crosshatching into it for grip. Want to get really spiffy, get someone with a laser to cut a Mossberg logo or whatever design you want onto it. Could probably just use black delrin plastic sheet too. Buy white and red spacers from a knife handle supply place. |
