I don't know much about black powder firearms, especially muskets, so forgive me if this sounds naive. I was looking at getting a model 1795 musket, a replica almost certainly to use to make a life size EIB. I looked & only found 1 replica in stock for under $1K. Many were closer to 2K or higher. I thought that sounds more like the price for an original not a replica. While I would like it to be capable of firing, it wouldn't really be necessary as it would essentially be a wall hanger on a display resembling an EIB. Am I not looking in the right places or is that what they typically go for? I'm fine with putting a kit together too, as long as any wood work isn't too extensive. Sanding, staining, drilling, a bit of minor hand fitting etc. I'd be fine with, but I'm no wood carver.

About the least expensive replicas is Vetrans Arms they're out of stock t the moment. I can't speak to the quality, but the few reviews I've seen are fairly good. Muzzleloading forum is another site where they come up few and far between. Midway has Pendersoli's fully assembled at $1600. Pendersoli doesn't have a price attached to their kits. Hope that helps. |

Ok, thanks. I'll either have to wait till one of the more affordable ones comes in stock or just forget it. I don't want to pay over $1K just for the musket that will be a wall hanger, plus building the case to hold it. Maybe if I hit the lottery, then I will.

| Any new repro musket is going to be over $1250. The main differences in the US 1795 compared to say the 1763 French Charleville will be the trigger guard and buttplate that will not really be noticeable from the side view. |

Mine cost almost $300 back in 1985. To get a used one for $600 will be a steal. You may have noticed that we are now in the cycle of American Revolution 250th Anniversary events. That increases demand for historical types of items. |

This is the kind of thing a gun show might actually pay off for. The shows I've gone to lately have some really end of life guys, as in walkers and oxygen tanks, running the tables. They know black powder isn't the hottest thing, and they might make a deal since you're still talking more than they probably have in the item. It might take a few shows at different places, but this is where gun shows pay off. You gotta look close, and if a guy has some black powder stuff ask if he's got what you want, if you don't see it. He just might have it at home and would meet you later in the week to complete a transaction. Get his number, and be persistent, if it is important to you. I got two bp revolvers for a song this way. |

I got my Pedersoli Brown Bess for $700 at an antique arms show last year-and saw another one for the same price a month later. I think your best bet is to go to some local gun shows. |
