Installed a Marbles Tang sight on a Henry Lever 22. Front screw is slightly off center. I wont be able to shoot the gun for about a week, just wondering what I am in for. Not sure how it happened, lined it all up used a center punch, etc. The worst part is I have Bridgeports, drill presses and people who could do this better then me, but I still decided my son and I should do it together int he garage. |

I free eyeballed a rail on a cheap shotgun for a dot sight. I sweated a little but it came out perfect. It was a cheap gun so I thought go for it... with a Dewalt cordless drill. I wanted a red dot mount to put an Eotech EFLEX on my M3 Benelli and was quoted $200 - $250 to drill and tap two holes! I had priced renting a centering jig, but I have the habit to just buy the tool if I might want to use it again. I did not buy or rent. I was sweating bullets and spent hours figuring out a way to precisely eyeball the layout. Got the blue painters tape and laid things out to drill. The first hole just needed to be centered and it went well. The second hole needed to be centered and spaced. I was using a drill press and a good vise but it was not a vice with x y adjustment. I fiddled with the vice alignment for about 3 hours between both holes. Then, time to tap the threads. I have seen the drill press trick to be perfectly vertical when tapping. I feared I might strip the threads fighting the upward spring retraction of the chuck. I did the tapping freehand and it turned out well. Basically it took me the whole day... with a lot of regret not buying the jig. As a whole, the task came out perfect! ...but NEVER AGAIN! In a situation like yours I would JB Weld the bad hole and start over. |
So... I find comfort in the fact that if Trump has to work so hard to go to Heaven, then there is a shit load of Democrats that have no f-cking chance to go anywhere but HELL. Sometimes it is entirely appropriate to kill a fly with a sledge-hammer.
