My 590 has a plastic buttstock with a 14" length of pull and it's just too long. What can l do to shorten it? Can the plastic stock be cut down like a wooden stock? Replace the rubber buttpad with a plastic plate? Where to find the plate? I just picked up a 9200 with with a plastic stock and 13¾" lop and it's a very good fit. Will these buttstocks interchange? They look like they will. I'm feeling too lazy to take everything apart right now.  Figure someone here has done that and knows. I really don't want to spend the $$$ for a magpul stock, especially if there's a cheaper alternative. |

Look for a youth stock for a mossberg 500. Most are around 12" lop. Could add a recoilpad to get closer to what you want. Your stock is hollow and cutting it down very far becomes involved with fitting the butpad back on. Not impossible, just more time consuming and involved. But you're only talking about 1/4" difference. Pull the buttpad off and see how much meat you have to work with for the screw holes. If it looks like they will survive a 1/4" trim and have enough to hold the buttpad screws still, then maybe a trim will work. |

| The Magpul is on the expensive side and it's heavier than stocks without all the features, but it offers a lot of adjustability and it's easily one of the most comfortable shotgun stocks I've used for that application. I obviously wouldn't want one on my dove gun or anything like that, but for a "duty"/fighting style shotgun they're hard to beat. |

I'd look like this after one session ----> I get what everyone is saying about the MagPul. They've always felt good when I've picked up a shotgun wearing one. But at this point I'm life in being more of a tight ass than the dude with all the tacticool gear. Still might go that route. My 870 is my primary shotgun with the 590 as the backup piece. |

Another option is an adapter which allows use of an AR grip and stock/ buffer extension. I chose this over a youth stock because I liked the grip angle vs that of a conventional stock. |

Pants on head silly to me, but I guess if you have gigantic hands it could be ok? But then you wouldn't need the adjustable stock in the first place? Still seems weird to me. |

Grip angle and position is different than on an AR and tang safety doesn't require hulk hands to access. |
| Multiple reports showing that the Maverick trigger group will swap into the 500 if you want the crossbolt safety. Since it doesn't have the piece that engages the receiver safety it no longer functions so you need to remove it, fill, it, whatever. Don't suggest that on the Fudd sites though, they get wound up over the idea and start reeeing about disabling a safety, part not made for the gun, etc. |
