Probably overthinking this. I'm installing 4 muzzle brakes on my rifles today and removed the first factory flash hider just now. being as HK doesn't use a crush washer I see do I need to use the chamfered spacer that comes with the shim pack or just shim it with the regular shims until I get it as close as I can and run it? These are muzzle brakes, not Warcomps that have the port holes in the top that need to be aligned at 12 o clock. |

After a little reading. no spacer needed for the mr556a4.Attached File |

First time installing one on my HKs and don’t want to screw it up. Last 2 I installed were on Daniel Defense uppers and they needed the chamfered spacer. |

This is wrong. This is in reference to products made by KBA and PMM for Scar 17s, Tavors, etc and is when there’s insufficient shoulder. OP is referring to the chamfered spacer that comes with Surefire shim kits. I posted this in HkPro in a similar thread: The chamfered spacer is needed if there’s no relief cut at the base of the threads. Forgoing the spacer without the relief cut, may have the shims resting on a conical surface at the base of the threads (instead of the shoulder), warping them when tightening. ETA: the chamfered spacer is intended to prevent this, see pic. Tightening a muzzle device onto this shim will make it wavy and crush it as it’s not sitting on the shoulder…  |
