| I'm in the process of choosing an optic for the MR556. Hoping for a littlele recommendation for this role. Since this is an 11" SBR I would like to keep things compact. I have astigmatism so red dots are not an option. I'll definitely need an optic with an etched reticle. I've got an Acog on another rifle that I like but would prefer a bit more magnification for this gun. I anticipate max shooting distance around 300-400m. I believe an LPVO will be the move but which one? I like the eotech vudu 4-12 (w/piggyback acro), maybe a nightforce nx-8. What else should I consider for this build. |
| I had a Atacr 1-8 on a 11.5” sr15 and it seemed too big, just didn’t feel correct when using rifle. I run micro with magnifier now. I would probably go nx8 1-8 or similar size optic for that rifle if wanting to run scope. I run acogs on sbr’s too and don’t feel held back by optic. |

This is a small light package and wouldn't want to compromise the balance and handling with a heavy piece of glass. The NX-8 or NX6 looks promising. |

I just got an NX6 1-6. I like it more than the ATACR 1-8 and NX8 that I had and sold off. The 1-6 can be dialed in nice and flat at 1x and still provide a super crisp image at the top end. I couldn't get either of of the 1-8's to do that. I could get them decent at each end, but far from perfect. For an 11" gun, I'd do either the NX6 or a T2 with a magnifier. |
| I have been checking out the NF NX6 1-6. That looks like a contender for this build. Slightly longer and heavier than the NX8 1-8 but $200 cheaper. Unfortunately, red dots are a starry/blurry mess for my eyes so LPVO or other etched reticle is my only real option. |
| great question. I've got an Acog TA01 on another build w/ RMR on top. Love the simplicity,weight,indestructibility. I do sometimes wish it had a bit more magnification though. I think as my eyesight has degraded, I think I lean on the aid of the optic to compensate. I keep looking at the NF NX6 1-6 for this role. |

The 6 is the better optic and its not even close. |
| Another one to really consider for this, especially against the NF NX6 1-6, is the Trijicon Credo 1-6 almost the same size and weight but about $800 less than the NF. Looks like reviews of the Credo are very good as well and it's a Trijicon so durability should be there as well. |
| I ended up with a Trijicon Credo 1-10. I love the reticle and magnification range. 1x is pretty flat and eyebox is usable for me. It's certainly not a small/light optic, but looks good on the HK and has a great reticle. Thanks gentlemen for your recommendations and suggestions. Y'all stay safe out there. |

LPVO, suppressor, and light together make a 416 feel pretty dense, never mind adding another 6 to 8 ounces for a laser if you're into that. Dropping down to an ACOG, even a TA02, shaves off at least a quarter pound. A 3X24 TA50 gives you a respectable amount of magnification, plus a top dot, for under 12 ounces. Odiegreen has a really good writeup on here somewhere. I like the low TA50 especially for the 416 since ADM makes a bunch of different height mounts, and I generally prefer something around 1.3" to 1.4" on the taller receivers. |
