| Anyone know when Steyr will send over some more stainless 9mm MP88 mags. I'm guessing somewhere between July and never. They may have already sent over all they have. |

Steyr has actually said in the official stire YouTube channel video regarding the recent 9mm kits that they don't even have the tooling anymore to make more mp88 mags ever! That is a big part of the reason why they went to the clear waffle 9mm mags. Unfortunately the clear waffle mags have had some issues with being a bit delicate. For example somebody had some in their range bag in the back of their car and the mags broke just from slopping around in the range bag. If you want any MP88 mags I suggest you buy all that you can find now as prices are already high and it's going to get even more so once people finally realize that they're really truly is not ever going to be any more and also more of the problems with the nine mm clear waffle mags come out. |
| The Steyr Youtube video only suggests the magazine adapter tooling is no longer around. I asked someone at Steyr US about more of the metal 9mm mags months ago and got a "we'll see" kind of response. I was told numerous others had been asking about more metal mags and spare mag adapters too. |

It would certainly be really awesome if me and the video and my peeps at Steyr were all wrong. I would welcome that good news. I think it's equally or more likely that they would come out with other different magazines and or adapters. I personally really wish for a star factory Glock mag adapter. That would be epic. |

I think, with the release of more AUGs using the MP88 mags, some of us are hoping that means that they found a warehouse full of the mags and are therefore going to try and sell more guns that use them to pump up demand. It would be pretty shitty, though not unheard of, for a company to release a gun that only comes with one magazine for which spares are totally unavailable new. The only "solutions" for all the people who buy said new gun is to pay 3x plus the rate charged on the company website for mags on the secondary market, or buy a conversion kit for $1000 that includes parts not needed to convert the gun to use the new plastic mags (barrel). It was one thing when they released 88 guns. People buying those guns probably understand the mag situation and the guns are, at least in theory, intended to be more collector guns than range/competition/defensive guns. However, when a bunch more guns are released using the current production parts (A3 M2 receivers, etc.) with no mention of the guns being a limited edition then spare mags need to be available. A PCC with only one magazine is almost as useless as a PCC with no magazines for the intended use cases of PCCs. They obviously have MP88 mags to ship with these new guns. They need to release spares for sale for people who buy the new guns. |

They said they are waiting for some more to be sent over. It would not be a good thing for the people who bought the the 9mm guns and then no extra mags available. |

He says the adapter will be available as a stand alone part. Hopefully both are true. I would love to be able to use Glock mags in my 9mm AUG. Not true. Just because it has a serial number on it does not mean that it is one of the really truly old adapters that would be able to use the MPI 69, 81, or 84 mags. I have extensive direct experience as i have had multiple kits of multiple different generations. If you want it to feed and eject correctly you really need to make sure that you're using the correct generation of adapter for the correct magazines. The MPI 69 or 81 or 84 Max are great and they're more available and less expensive and they hold more ammo but they do not have a lash off hold open and you have to make sure that you have one of the correct older gen adapters. |

Interesting, I was under the impression the 9mm AUG always had used its own proprietary mag due to feed angle or some other reason- I know I have tried MPI 69 mags in my 9mm AUG and it would not feed reliably/at all, a lot of weird failures to chamber. Any idea what the exact differences are between the MPI 69 and 9mm AUG mags, besides the follower/bolt hold open? Does the MPI mag adapter hold the mags slightly higher or lower or a little farther forward or back? Sven Manticore Arms |

Yes in addition to the last shot bolt hold open or not there are also differences in the height of seating of the magazine. There should be a tight Clarence with basically no Gap between the top of the magazine and the bottom of the ejector. If there is a gap it is the wrong one and you'll get feed and ejection problems because of the height relationship between the magazine the feed ramp and the ejector. I forget the details of the exact problems or whether it will even attempt to work at all if you go the wrong direction the other way but I know that causes problems also. https://youtu.be/UyWcZigMzuY?feature=shared When I first got my first old gen 1 kit I had problems and I didn't know why for a good while. IF you really are committed to having the metal straight mag look and IF you can get the correct older adapter then the MPI 69 or 81 or 84 magazines are worth pursuing they're definitely less expensive more available and hold more ammo and still give the same iconic cool look. And I do think that the last shot won't hold open is worth giving up if looking throughin the recreational gun for cosmetics lens. |

I have two recently acquired 6th gen mp88 mag adapters with serial numbers on them. One of the ways to identify them as 6th gen is that unlike some other previous adapters they have a tiny little tooth on the front that pops out when you put a magazine in the adapter and the purpose of it is to prevent the adapter from being taken out of the stock if there is a magazine still in it. I don't know why they thought that was important but it's a weird little tidbit that serves as an identifier. |

@Manticore_Arms You should write a book about it! 😉 😀 Maleante and I could help. I've had some extremely ridiculously rare pieces and prototypes over the years and I'm willing to let you document them but you need to act quickly because I have already sold off or broken up many pieces of my collection. I will also be selling off even more stuff. For example I told my wife's car during a major winter storm. So I sold some stuff and bought her a new car. One of the things I sold was a rare one of five prototype. I have no way of contacting that guy and so it's gone forever now. |
