Update: With the help of the forum I figured out the mistake. The vendor allowed me to return the MP5K stock. Bear with me, I am both a nOoB in HK firearms and this H&K forum. I normally hang out where people talk about Mid 70's M1A's/Devines, and old Winchester Lever actions. But anyway, I impulsively bought a MKE AP5-P Pistol because I live in a state that wanted to ban them. They almost did. But I bought it before the ban, and now the ban is stuck in court, I have the AP5-P pistol at home, and immediately sent in a Form 1 to ATF and received my Zero Dollar stamp/registration a week later. So, it's now a SBR. Knowing exactly nothing about HK clones, I decided I wanted the HK MP5K stock (pictured below) to add to the MKE AP5-P. I received it in June. I also ordered a A2 fixed stock, cause I kinda like the way that looks too. So here is my problem. Today I finally started messing with the AP5 and I pull off the buttcap and went to swap in the HK MP5K stock and that little block of metal in the red circle blocks the MP5K stock from going into the AP5 receiver. Since I am over the age of 18 by at least 40 years, I am going to assume that MKE put that little metal block to prevent buyers like me from trying to do exactly what I am trying to do. Swap stocks. Here is the question: Am I screwed on swapping stocks because of that piece of metal? Is that piece of L shaped metal holding the entire back end of the AP5 receiver together and if I remove it will the AP5 take my face off? Or is that little L shaped piece of metal just there to prevent non SBR pistols to be legally converted to SBR's with other parts? That little L shaped piece of metal is hitting the MP5K stock end when I try to insert it into the MKE AP5 receiver. I used chalk to confirm its hitting one side of the MP5K pin retention tube on the buttcap. Can I swap the stock(s) by removing that little L shaped piece of metal or am I going to ruin my new toy before I even have a chance to play with it and the new RB FRT trigger pack I have yet to install? Any help, advice, suggestions appreciated. I am here to learn. I already know I am a dumbass. But it can't hurt to remind me. I do not want to leave the AP5-P in a pistol configuration for several reasons. One is I am not fond of shooting weapons such as this one like a pistol. I can't hit schitt with it that way. HK MP5/AP5 & MP5K/AP5P use different stocks. Your last picture labeled AP5-P is actually a standard AP5, won’t take K/P style stocks. MKE didn’t do anything to prevent the proper style stocks from being used but both my AP5 & AP5-P stocks I bought after SBR’s were approved were very tight fit. As others have said, your AP5-P is a 'pistol' in the US configuration just because it has no stock on it. The 'K' version stock you bought only fit AP5-K (with the 2 pins in the rear). I'm also a noobie in the H&K realm and it took me a bit of reading to understand the differences between these 2 versions. I hope you can return the stock and swap it out for the standard stock. |

Edit: 08/10/2026: The vendor graciously let me return the stock. It has been returned. Thank you all for the excellent info. I completely understand. It’s a Arisaka/Carcano. Appreciate the help. TFB |
