[Last Edit: MCDXXV]
The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) issued a solicitation for a family of Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifles, the so-called SCAR, designed around two different calibers but featuring high commonality of parts and identical ergonomics.

The SCAR is manufactured in two main versions; the SCAR-L ("Light") and SCAR-H ("Heavy"). The SCAR-L fires 5.56×45mm NATO, fed from STANAG (M16) magazines. The SCAR-H fires the more powerful 7.62×51mm NATO from proprietary 20-round magazines. Different length barrels are available for close quarters battle and for longer-range engagements.

The Mk 16 was intended to replace the M4A1, the Mk 18 CQBR and the Mk 12 SPR, before SOCOM decided to cancel the order for the Mk 16 Mod 0. The Mk 17 will replace the M14 and Mk 11 sniper rifles. However, the weapon will only supplement other weapons while issuing remains at the operator's decision.

The Mk 20 Mod 0 Sniper Support Rifle (SSR) is based on the SCAR-H. It includes a longer receiver, a beefed up barrel extension and barrel profile to reduce whip and improve accuracy, and an enhanced modular trigger that can be configured for single-stage or two-stage operation together with either a folding or a non-folding precision stock.

There are three barrels for both the Mk16 and Mk17s.  You're missing the long 20" barrel for the Mk17 for 13" CQC, 16" (S) and 20" (LB) and Mk16 bbl lengths are 10" (CQC), 14" (S) and 18" (LB).  Magazines issued were 20 and 30 rds for the Mk16 and 10/20 for the Mk17/20s.

Love how FN continues to tease the MK20 SSR then it never happens. They got the Ballista over here but no MK20.

@CD Is the 17 stock breaking and or lower problems overblown? Keep reading about it and scratching my head as I have yet to see one broken.

@Combat_Diver do you have any insight as to who makes the rail extension on this 17? Or have you ever seen one? Interesting setup with the SSR stock as well.

That particular rail extension was a prototype for the FN SCAR-H PR before the product line eventually adopted the lengthened receiver from the Mk20/SSR. Apparently some made their way into the field for evaluation as well, though I doubt FN produced them in any significant number.

You can bet I'll be contributing my clones to this thread very soon, just waiting on a few UID stickers and a chance to take some decent pictures. Additionally, I have saved over 2GB worth of FN SCAR/GWOT photos spanning the past ten years. Eventually I plan to collect, catalog, and upload them all here. Meanwhile, if there's anything in particular that someone is interested in seeing, let me know and I'll do my best to dig it up.

My first rifle, first clone, and first love. The purpose and configuration of this weapon have evolved through numerous iterations alongside my maturation as a shooter. Funny how after all those changes and nearly a decade later this gun ends up back to where it all started.

Not terribly priced either. Contemplating getting one for my 13” barrel.

Jump on it, they're never going to be cheaper. When the commercial SCAR's first released, during the same time period I began cloning, those eighteen-toothed MITER's were impossible to acquire. I recall a Gunbroker listing for a half melted and shot out demo machine-gun barrel that auctioned for well north of $2000, solely because it had an 18T Blackout attached. Remember, you could buy the entire rifle for that much back then. Now that they are seemingly abundant I would urge you to take advantage of the surplus pricing. From what I can gather, the mounts currently on the market were salvaged from the infamous scrap heap of plasma torched barrels and suppressors being sold at Knob Creek. Once those are gone, I doubt we will be seeing any more surface from DRMO. Get 'em while you can.

Looking at picking up a UID from Carolina and want to make sure I have the info right for a Scar 17. What do I need/ are these correct for the following?

MFG:
Part # MK 17 Mod 0
Serial # HC59xxx

If no longer needed do these come off relatively easy with a heat gun etc and not damage the white MFG lettering located between the two bolts?
