MCX Spear (Page 37 of 37)

I actually took a class with the SIG SPEAR 308 and yeah a lot of people were "impressed" I was able to handle it. Here's what I found out about it though: get a padded sling. After the class I went and bought a padded vtac with it. I read a lot of people looking to buy a better gas vent for their rifle and I'm not sure why people are doing this. Is it because of the recoil? I have gotten the SIG SPEAR 308 as a Christmas gift and have been shooting it now for about 2 months. At first, I was shocked by the recoil of it more so than my 5.56 rifles. I had a M1A before and it was not that bad from what I remembered. However, after a few session, I was able to shoot it without issues. My thought is that before you go too crazy trying to tame it, try to shoot it more. It appears to be working better now, at least for me. I'm able to make 3 shot groups fairly well with it. I plan to test some of the cheap russian tulammo later as I have a few boxes of it. |

Recoil on the Spear is stout ... both ways but its really noticeable with a traditional suppressor ... |

I was able to get shots on target faster with it than my 13.5" LMT 308. |

I don't own a gun and I don't live in the US, so I can't email SIG to ask. I'd like someone to ask if possible. ・There is an 「A」 mark on the right side of the MCX-SPEAR upper receiver. Which company's forge mark is this? ・What is the purpose of the black plastic part on the left side of the MCX-SPEAR (7.62) handguard? |

So now that you're used to the feel of the weapon and are doing well with it, consider how well you'd do if you reduced the recoil by a substantial amount. |

Like I said to the other fella, now consider taking the rifle that "doesn't feel that bad" and reduce the recoil substantially. Also, if you want to truly enjoy shooting a can on this thing, you need to eliminate the port pop. With the OEM valve and a silencer, the action opens so fast that the pressurized burst from the chamber escapes at such a velocity that it ruins the experience. This device eliminates that. None of you folks *have* to buy anything. I'm just here to tell you this makes your gun objectively better :) |

| Indeed, you can also eliminate the port pop by increasing the mass flow rate in the silencer and resulting in a higher than necessary muzzle signature. This is what the forums have been telling MCX users for the better part of a decade. "Buy a 'Flow Through,' everything else is bad on the MCX." |

I used a surefire SOCOM gen 1 can on both the 11.5" Virtus and Spear-LT. It really wasn't bad and was comparible to a Geissele 11.5". The sound was about the same too. |

The black plastic piece is the "side charge guard" - I believe its there to guide your hand onto the side charging handle without getting on the rail. I don't recall the handle going far forward enough where it hits that actual piece. |

I will literally send you a valve for that 11.5" MCX so you can do it again with the gun tuned for that can and never say that that experience "wasn't that bad" again. |

I appreciate the offer, I parted ways with both due to semi recent hardships of a competitor to my employer buying us out and axing everyone. Last 2 MCX setups I have are the Spear 13" and RSAR. |

The AH mark on the lower receiver is different so I thought it was made by a different manufacturer, but it turns out it's just a different variation! So the plastic part is a handle guard! Thank you! |
![]() The Sig M8 Revealed! The Army’s “New” Rifle Explained (SIG Interview) |
![]() Why Every Major Power is Racing to Build This Rifle Normally I only post the "SPEAR/M7/M8" specific videos but I found this one to be interesting and it does include the SPEAR 6.8.. Apparently both Russia and China are working on their own versions of a high velocity round and new firearms in response to the SIG SPEAR 6.8. The Russian AK-22 in 6.02x41 and the Chinese QBZ-191 in 6.8. Both are designed for body armor and light armor penetration. |

The Russian AK-22 in 6.02x41 and the Chinese QBZ-191 in 6.8. Both are designed for body armor and light armor penetration. I don't know if I quite believe the video for a few reasons: 1. it would mean the Russian/Chinese stole design specifications or were purchased through civilian means or someone spying and selling illegal information. 2. The SPEAR while officially designated M7, is not actually in any sort of full use or shipment. As far as I can tell they are currently only adopted still in test use and not in widespread use. 3. So far it doesn't sound like the newer 6.8 round is being adopted in NATO. So far the only known rifle that shoots it is the SIG and I believe SIG has a patent on the round? Not sure if that is correct but as far as NATO goes, it's not adopted yet. Finaly as 4th point, when the M855 round came out, as far as I can tell China and Russia did not responded with any sort of upgraded round of their own. I believe the 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 rounds were both remaining the same. The only possible response item might have been the 7.62x54 but again that has been in use for decades and doesn't seem to have changed. |

Did anyone else discussed on this forum that the SPEAR is basically an upside down M1a/M14? It has a near identical part 1-to-1 translation. A long op rod that attaches to the bolt, a recoil guide that goes into the op rod, the piston that has the two pieces with a cylinder that builds up gas pressure. The only difference is that it is all internal but otherwise the system is nearly identical in everyway. Anyone else notices this? Sorry if this been brought up before. I was at the gun shop looking over a M1a and it didn't really hit me until today that it is a upside down m1a. |

The mini 14 is the same hence the mini 14 instead of m14. |

Update on my broken charging handle spring. After a month and a half I have been sent a molded charging handle, but not the spring (which was the broken part). Since it takes months to get parts imported I just bought a bunch of torque springs to find which one would fit the best. For anyone in future that has the same issue and wants to fix it, I went with a 90 degrees right-wind torque spring. The molded charging handle of the .277 version requires a shorter bolt as well as it’s overall thinner, so I’ll stick with the original one. |
| I've never understood how these programs are able to go forward and then just abondoned. It's so wasteful. I was still selling guns when the Army wanted a 45 and everyone jumped in only for it to be cancelled before completion. Talking to one of the factory reps they were talking about how it's a shitty situation because they sunk millions into the gun program and now the only recourse they had was to hope to recoup some of it on the commercial market. |

I believe the idea is for it to be used by the infantry and other units likely to seek out and engage in combat. I would suspect support units would maintain M4s, much like the mix with the Marines with M27s and M4s. |
