Gents. I have a few M1a's. A few full-lengths, a scout, but I don't have a socom. Would it be worth picking one up if I can find a good deal on one? How do they shoot? I have read in the past that they are loud and a little snotty. Would I be wasting money getting one? Edit: I got it for 1300

I sell guns for a living. I always wanted a socom 16, always! Found out my job can only get scout squads in, so I settled for that. If I had my choice, I would've got the socom, on pure looks alone. I just got my first m1a the 6th. But been told the 16in barrel doesn't make sense as for as a 308 goes..but the socom looks so sexy! Life's to damn short...ya want it, pull the trigger! |
I most likely would've got that one, damn.

If I was hunting and only making 1 shot, I would be ok without ear protection (but I would still try to use it if you have time). But generally shooting I always wear foamies. |

If you have a Bayonet lug on an 18 1/2” barrel, you may have some issues removing the gas piston. That’s why Jon Wolfe started using 19” barrel. But at the same time, how often do you take out piston? To take the Muzzle Brake off you need “Castle Nut” pliers. They are quite easy to find. Lining the Castle Nut up for the set screw to go in properly. It’s a bit of a PITA. |

It will catch the threads, but it wants a lot of pressure to continue. I don't want to force it and cause some self-induced pain. Also, the standard 5/8 X 24 flash suppressor won't thread onto the gas lock. |

I live in CA, so I can’t have a functional Flash Suppressor. Otherwise I would have. So, I put on a Chinese made non functional FS. The Muzzle Brake is now on a Full Size build with a medium weight Walther barrel. |

Well, a little update. The seller got back to me, and I am supposed to look at it on Saturday. It comes with a eotech 512, 6 mags and a soft case. He is asking 1500 but its been for sale for months. I might offer 1200. |

I got it for 1300. 6 mags and a soft case. I put a wood stock on it as I cant stand the synthetic stock. Now I need to look at suppressing it. |

| Should I go with a flash hider or brake for this gun? It will be shot suppressed from time to time, so it will have to have a dead air keymo moun of some sort. |
