400 yards max is doable with a red dot, but if you need magnification go with a EER pistol scope. Mount it as low as you can in order to have a chance at having a decent cheek weld. I have used old Leupold M8 EER scopes on AK's with good results. A 4X will work for general purpose, if you want to see better at longer ranger you will want a variable power scope. I set the scope up foe focus and eye relief on the lowest power setting for use in the standing (offhand) position. Eye relief shortens when you dial up the power, good for when you are laying down prone. |

Receiver scope mount or Scout mount? Keep in mind scout mounts do a great job of transferring heat from the barrel to the optic. I'd go with a red dot, but, if you want magnification, an LPVO or a compact variable. |
