I am looking at a Liberty USA 50 - what other safes should I look at? I am budget conscience and looking for something in the $1500 to $2500 range. A 12 gauge body is fine but thicker would be better of course. Dimensionally I am looking for something about 72" high, 42" wide, and 28" deep. Ideally I'd like to be in the $1500 to $2000 range but that looks like it will be very difficult. What safes am I missing that compete at this size and price? |

Every safe you mention unless its a stupid expensive AMsec or other off the wall specialty (bank rated safe) will be crapped upon here. Either there is a youtube of someone breaking into one with a spork or a sleuth here has undeniable proof that the safe company or a company that owns it has donated 87 million to a group or fund that is counter to our rights. |

Thanks for the candid info. I get that there are much nicer safes out there. However for me, a safe in this range is the right fit. The first safe I bought was a very nice fort knox titan. I spent a lot of money on that safe for things like extra steel all over. In hindsight, I should have put all that extra money into a monitored alarm system, cameras, and a dog. A lesser safe with the money saved used for the things mentioned above would have been more effective (as long as the safe isn't a POS). That was a lesson learned! For what I want to store something around the level of the usa50 would work. I'd love to hear more constructive input on other models in this class or around this level that I should look at! |

You're not going to find anything that size for that price to your door unless you have the capacity to move something that size and weight yourself. That Liberty 50 is like 900 pounds and at least $2000+ without taxes or shipping. You might find something close to that size and price if you go with the numerous imported safes like a Cannon or A Field but those are all 14 gauge or thinner. Honestly though it probably won't matter much if it's 12 or 14 gauge. You can still pick up a Winchester Ranger 26 on Amazon for less than 1200 shipped to your door if that size is sufficient. I think it's a good value considering what's out there. Maybe there will be some good BF deals for you coming up. Also check your local FB Marketplace, Offerup or Craigslist. I've gotten prices of about $2300 without tax or anything else. I'm seeing this safe on sale at a few places. I am going to call a few Amsec dealers in my area to see if anyone is selling at this price. It looks better than the USA 50 and maybe even the colonial 50. It's a little over $2500 with tax but might be worth stretching the budget a little bit if I can find a deal close to me. Amsec sf 7240 |

Guys, I am leaning towards the Canon wide body 64 gun safe at Tractor Supply. It is marked down on Black Friday from $1299 to $899. The UsA 50 and Colonial 50 are $2500 to $3300. I realize that the Cannon safe is not as tall or deep as the Liberty but I am having a hard time justifying paying 3+ times the price of the Cannon. The Liberty does have more steel but it's only a difference of 14 gauge to 12 gauge. Am I missing something? Also, I intend on using this safe to store milsurps and stuff like that. I have a nicer safe for the more valuable stuff. Cannon safe at TS |

What are your guys opinions on the Steelwater LD724228-EMP? It says the lock has a bypass key and doesn't mention whether lock is UL approved. This this mean the lock is a POS lock? The safe is available for about $2100 delivered. Years ago I bought a Heritage Legacy - when they were built in Idaho. It's a fantastic residential storage locker. It was an upgrade from a Cannon. The local Liberity dealer had this out front. LOL! Attached File |

I bought a Liberty USA 50 around the end of March and I am pleased with it. It holds quite a few rifles and handguns. The only complaint I really have is the safe is not friendly to rifles with pistol grips. AR, AK, Fals all gave me a bit of a challenge keeping them lined up and not hitting each other. The handgun pouches on the door do mixed duty. Some hold a AR single mag, some hold a pistol. The top shelf holds ample accessories like scopes, mounts, repair parts, etc. The 2nd shelf has the long barrrel cutout that does a decent job and the right side is great for handgun mags and the odd speedloader or two. I keep a few tools on that shelf as well. They kinda depend on what I am doing (such as getting a mil spec stock off a commercial tube 🤣). On the whole, recognizing the furor over to release of combinations to the government, I still had to buy something in our price range and the Liberty fit the bill. |
| I saw this thread back up at the top and figured I would provide an after-action report. I wound up buying a colonial 50. Overall, it is a decent RSC. Some good things... The use of the locking bars looks like it allows them to make the door thinner, which provides more depth given the outer dimension. It is finished pretty nice and looks good. The bad... It is lightweight for the size (12 gauge). The shelves are made of particle board to the extent that they have to stiffen full width shelves with another smaller piece of MDF attached to the bottom (why not just go with plywood?). The door on the safe is close enough (passable) but if you look very closely you can see that it isn't 100% straight in the opening. For the price I paid (I got a good deal) I am happy but the safe isn't without faults. |
