The kits sound sick. I'm thinking something like a 10.5-12.5 heavier barrel for buying through belts. Might have to buy a spare bolt just because nothing lasts forever. Super excited for this. And X2 on PA making a right turn towards the good side. I had given up on PA as a neighbor to the west |

Fantastic! Without revealing who is making the bolts, may I ask, is it a company who is already established, in one way or another, for making firearm parts, or a different machine shop that has expressed interest in the project? I know finding someone to make the bolts has been a challenge thus far, and I am curious to hear what part of the manufacturing world has stepped up. |

The bolts are made by a very established reputable company. They make something like 20K bolts per month. I may have them make the carrier and other parts too. |

This was pretty much your last major parts hurdle right? For the machined parts yes, but there are still some hurdles to get past. For a prototype, I should be in good shape to have something live firing *relatively* soon. But for production, I need to have solutions for the following: 1. Reliable sourcing for the M249 parts I'm using 2. Consistent way to manufacture the feed trays (they are formed sheetmetal, and need some odd geometry formed into them, as well as welding). 3. An inexpensive solution for feed lips (for lack of a better word). I have some that were metal 3D printed, and they are a little pricier than I want for production. 4. Possibly move from metal 3D printing on the feed lever to a machined feed lever. 5. Finalize engineering drawings and sourcing for all of the small parts (pins, etc). But all of these things are managable, I'm not worried about it. |

Here is a firing pin with a biasing spring. The spring is to eliminate the risk of slam fires, because of the extra mass of the extended firing pin. The spring happens to be an AR15 mag catch spring. Attached File |

I don’t know if I ever posted earlier, I’ve been following since the beginning. I was pessimistic about your prospects of a finished product, it seems like a major undertaking for a hobbyist, but: Awesome man, so happy to see the success and progress. Very interested in purchase after you’ve got it fleshed out reliable. |

I would like to clarify that I'm slightly more qualified than a hobbyist, because I don't want people to feel unsafe using this upper. I have 19 years of experience as a product designer and manufacturing engineer, and I've been building AR15's since I was a teenager. I know enough about my own capabilities and limitations to know when I need to rely on experts. Its for this reason that I am having the major components that hold pressure manufactured by established companies in the industry. Except for the extra 3/4" of BCG travel, I'm not making functional changes to the way the gun cycles, I am only changing the feed mechanism. |

I keep thinking that an AK mag lower like the KS-47 or one of wolfpack Armorys lowers would look great with this project. You could have a belt box adapter that locks on the magwell and holds the box titled forward for better ground clearance. And/or have it moved a little forward to match the feed port. Either way I'm excited for the chance to build one up. |

If done right, the whole rifle should like like it was designed that way from the start. |

Either way I'll be happy to test it out. Wouldn't be hard to try a few different angles. I'm sure you could design something real quick if you wanted to, but otherwise I'll plan on doing hillbilly "AK mag welded to sheet metal" adapter, haha. Allow my good idea to move me up 5 social credit points on the waitlist... ?? |
