Not a SBS yet. I picked this Remington Model 11 up as a "cheap" project. Probably over paid but I couldn't resist a project. Its pre 1928 so probably over 100 years old. Came as pictured but also with a extra 30" full choke barrel. Shotgun and two barrels for $300. I figure the extra barrel is probably worth about $200. But after i bought it I kind of realized it is probably a $150 shotgun. But so goes life. But since i have two barrels I figured it would be perfect to engrave it, file the paper work and cut this barrel down to about 14". I would still have the 30" if i want to go hunt or try shooting some trap. As always "cheap" projects get out of control. I test fired both barrels with trap loads and it runs like a top. But It is currently in pieces getting a good cleaning and waiting on a full spring and bushing kit. Wood is stripped with glue drying in a few cracks and going to get refinished. Might also shorten LOP since I have shorty arms.  But in the meantime, for inspiration, lets see your old school wood and blue steel SBS. |

Not an SBS quite yet (18.125" barrels), but will be after 1 Jan 26. Currently standing beside my bed with 2 #4 buck loads (best pattern in current barrel length). Stevens 16 gauge; gonna cut the barrels to 16" to match its gauge. Attached File |

Found a Remington Model 11 today for $350. Problem is I'm not sure if it runs, will be sold as is. Comes with a new firing pin and some kind of rings that the former owner said needed to be replaced. Are these things very hard to work on? |

I realize prices have gone up in general, and also due to their popularity, but I still see ugly project guns around $200. Occasionally less. That said, if that’s all that’s wrong with your gun, that may be worth the $150 difference in time and trouble. Don’t be afraid to grab a Savage 720 if you see one. They’re rarer and seem to list for more, but sometimes one will pop up at a bargain price. Tip: Get a C&R. $30/3 years is a bargain to have ones you find online shipped to you, being able to grab one if you’re out of state and see it at a gun shop, etc. Ten bucks a year is a bargain for what you gain. |

The strap has velcro and the rubber grip sleeve bunches up just a bit, but feels real good in the hand. The kit had the forend strap too. |

I guess this qualifies as it was done around 30 years ago. A 12.5” Sage International Sidewinder Built on a Remington 1100 Special Purpose One of two ever built, their shortest cataloged barrel length was 14.5” 100% Reliable using recommended ammo. I carried it on duty for years!

Removal of the recoil spring and its tube would open up a ton of stock options had no idea anyone figured out how to do so. |

That gun is a conversion done to Remington. They modified them so folding stocks could be used which was uncommon because most guns had workings in the butt stock. A 12" barrel with the folder makes for a very compact package. Remington could have done the same thing with the V3 when they were making it but never did. It's one of the reasons a lot of people liked Saigas very short OAL. |

Attached File Is this considered old school? Was first put together this way out of the basement at shotgun world, back in the zombie craze days. The sight is a recent addition. I upgraded the sight on my SBR, so I now have a green circle dot, which kind of matches the green XS big dot I recently installed, which is still usable with the pic rail setup. I have a Surefire on order for it, and am hoping it comes with the M-lok mount. Anyways, my contribution. Still hoping I never see the zombie outbreak. I was kind of concerned during 2020. I think we might be okay for now. |

The newest part on this one is the pistol grip. I think Remington's PFS-87 folding stock assembly was introduced around 1976, but Idk when this particular grip was made. Certainly not as old as some of the fine examples posted here in this thread.  Attached File |

It has that spring around the mag tube. To order, you may have to supply a serial number of the gun your ordering the part for. A Stoeger. In my case, the Stoeger spring for use on an 1100 Remington. A lot of Turkish bullpups use that type of spring around the mag tube, some cases the barrel. They're out there. I would also say the strength and length of that spring will vary. Here is a video (a disassembly video) for the M3000. It's just one that I know about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=260XxY5BnCU The Remington has a 1" mag tube OD so the ID of the spring should be a close fit for best results. Did a quick search for semiauto shotguns using a forward mounted action spring. Mossberg 990 and 940, Stoeger M3000 and M3500, Black aces tactical, and others. Most of the more economical shotguns use that forward mounted action spring. Thanks. @diesel2 @southeast_scrounger Yes, belt sander. I chopped the stock a few years ago, before I SBS'd it so I'm trying to remember. But I think after I cut the 2"off with a band saw I screwed the buttplate back on and then very gingerly sanded the buttplate to match the stock. |
