I have a Marlin 1894SBL in 44 mag and based on the amount of good reviews and the weight, I’m looking at buying a Leopold VX Freedom 1.5-4x20 scope. One thing nobody talks about is the reticle they chose and why. MOA or Pig Plex Attached File Attached File |

I have the MOA, never used the Pig. I have found the 5 MOA spacing pretty useful for plinking at steel. In my case I can use them to hold over at 75 & 100 yards with a 50 yard zero. 38/357 subs. For $200 more you could get the Vx3. I have one of those too and the glass is better. Those come with a plain duplex. |
| I find the Pig plex is nice for running deer. I have that one on a 44 lever. A good hunting scope versus target work. I also have one with the standard reticle on another deer gun and I like it too, it’s on a 12.5 inch 350 Legend pistol. I think that series is just about perfect for short to medium range gun. The size and weight are well suited for straight wall lever guns and big bore AR types. The magnification is sufficient for eastern woods hunting. I’m a big fan. |
