I may still prime on press for 9mm, but I sized a bunch more 9mm tonight. This thing is awesome and well worth the $80 I spent on it!

Fyi, lee released a new depriming kit that looks to based on newer style swagger kit.  I know running 308 through mine using just the univeral decap die, I had issues with not cases not centering with mine.

Saw this advertised in Handloader magazine. Will fit all progressives, says the ad.

Bullet feed die and feed kit for under $100, caliber specific.

I would be looking at 22, 35, and 45 cal to start.

I have been wondering about something to put on my Sixpack.
It has the case feeder.
Fitted a Hornaday powder measure and drop kit.
Now I need a bullet feeder on the cheap.

Id want mostly 9mm/38 and perhaps 40.

One pull one round for way less than half what something else costs.
And does a fine job so far.
I did 1100 357s on it.

Can you give us a link to a "sixpack"? Never heard of it.

Ya, if it's not APP related it needs it's own thread.

gahh you are right sorry.
Was just a bit to happy to see that bullet feed kit.

My APP, I use it for bullet sizing, a tiny bit of case sizing and decapping before wet tumblng.
I processed enough 9mm with it last year that I haven't needed to do any for quite some time.

Anyone able to help with one of these Universal Case Feeders for the APP?

Link to Product on Etsy

Having some issues with getting the case feeder part that attaches to the press (black part) positoned with the bolt.  I'm not able to put the bolt through the same way as the factory one so I'm a little stuck.  I got it semi attached and working but I have to adjust the position everytime I spin the tubes.

Hard to believe this guy doesn't have instructions or a video.........

Bumping this to see if anyone has come up with a way to attach this.  I need to decap some brass last night so I fiddled with it every time I spun the tube and yeah I don't want to do that.

I'm out of work after this week so maybe I can figure something out while I look for another job and try to get my entire disaster of a house spruced up.

Mine looks similar to those. Looks like you would have to take it apart and drop the long threaded 1/4" bolt in from the top. One jam nut all the way to the top of the bolt, then 2 more nuts to set the height.

Has anyone busted the shuttle yet?

I broke mine yesterday while decapping 5.56 cases.

LEE is sending a new lower assembly and spring for free.

The spring connection broke due to tension pulling the shuttle forward. Even with it broken it would still pull a case into the correct position so by pulling it back with a little wiggle a case would drop and allow me to continue processing fast.

Before this broke, I had 2 distinct issues:

Failure to push a case forward without a "snap" causing the case to jump out. This no longer happens now that the shuttle is broken, so I'm guessing something was binding under the shuttle.

Failure for the shuttle to return to a rearward position, this never resolved but I use my left hand to pull it back with a wiggle as mentioned above.
6/28/2023 2:11:45 PM EDT
[#17]
Yes, I replaced my shuttle about a year or so ago. The tab where the spring hooks to broke off.

At that point I guess I had decapped 20k cases of various calibers. Guessing 10k since.

Last weekend decapped 3k 45 ACP.

At this point about 3/4 of them are wet tumbled.

Lee is great about Free replacement parts. I believe its up to 6 parts free (one of each), then they charge, but I might be wrong on that. Been awhile since I've had to replace anything.

I bought 3 shuttles to have as backup so had to pay for 2.

Installing the coat hanger wire in the return spring pretty much eliminated the finger push thing when a case stuck prior to locating properly in the Xpress shell holder. #3 in the OP.

Previous session was 3k of 45 ACP.

I can add cases to the feeder and shake them in the tubes as my right hand pulls the handle and decapped rounds are ejected.

Did these in several sessions to keep the wet tumblers filled.

Last load of the wet tumbler comes out today.

Took about 15 minutes to do the change over from 45 ACP to 223, and the usual fiddling to adjust case feeder just right.

Well Lee has been busy making improvements to the APP in the decapping department. Has a new priming system, I didn't try that.

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1022385797?pid=973423  Edit, having trouble getting this link to work. Search Lee App press.

You will notice the extra spring in front of the "shellholder" area (for priming), and the decapping system has been 100% changed, top and bottom.

If you follow my posts in the "what did you do in reloading today" thread, https://www.ar15.com/forums/Armory/What-Did-You-Do-Today-In-The-World-Of-Reloading-NO-OFF-TOPIC-Posts/42-384612/?page=461&anc=5975584#i5975355 , you will find that my buddy shooter709 just got a new APP, that I helped him set up.

The depriming is now done with an (insert/die) top of press instead of a universal decapper. Uses the primer pocket swage outer parts, inside is different.

Then on the bottom of the press, the APP shell holders are no longer used. So eliminated shell holder alignment issues. Big Improvement, no shell holders to buy.

Just a plastic insert with a hole in it so primer can drop into the catch bottle. No change to the shuttle or height inserts that I could see.

The new decapping system works very well, just letting everyone know of the upgrades.

Some of us wet tumble and we decap cases first, so the primer pockets come out spotless. Note the many bling pics I have posted.

I have an original APP, so I was looking for an upgrade kit. Easy to find the decapper assembly, couldn't find the parts that replaced the shell holder.

So Midway has the APP on sale $89, $10 off with $75 purchase, and free shipping. So have one coming, guess I'm starting an APP family. (SDB reference)

Will post pics when it arrives.

Are you referring to the ACP (Automatic Case Primer)? Lee released it about a year and a half ago if I'm not mistaken.

Here's a utube that explains it:
LEE ACP Automatic Case Primer Priming Tool (Updated Review)

Interested in what you think about it compared to priming cases on a progressive.

Friend got the APP deluxe. It was set up for decapping and came with priming parts.

We ignored the priming set up.

Was going to cut it off, but saw that part of it held on the bottom decapping insert, so left priming system intact.

It had no effect on decapping, so it's just there.

As far as using the press to prime, it would make sense to me to use it if you are loading single stage.

Loading blocks full of primed cases is a good thing. Powder throw goes fast for me, then it's on to seating bullets.

If loading progressive, I prime on the press.

My new APP will be a decided decapper, old one will be set up for bullet sizing, it works very well for that.

Just watched the video. That press has a shield the APP didn't have, and all the priming mechanism was in the front of the press.

So I'm staying with Shooter709's press is an APP deluxe.

OK, I understand now... the new APP has the ACP capability of priming too. Just takes a knock on the head for me to understand.

I think the ACP was a bust for Lee from reviews I'd read previously. It might be discontinued now.

From what I read in the past the spring on the primer shoot can get caught up and tapping the primer tray constantly was part of the primer dispense ritual. Maybe that's why they moved the tray to the front.

Good to know primer seating is now included with the APP at no extra charge!

Resurrecting this thread as I was having issues with the shuttle pushing the shell all the way to the middle of the shell holder.  I saw comments about using wax, mineral oil, etc.  I played around with these and nothing worked.  Finally I took the black plastic rail off of the press to check what may be causing the issue.  From what I could tell when the rail was removed from the press the shuttle moved freely without issue.  When I reinstalled it it bound up.  What caused it to bind up?  There are two screws that hold it in - one on the top right and one on the bottom left.  The top right I tightened down, the bottom left I tightened then backed off of it about a half turn and bam - no more hang up issues!

Just sharing if anyone else is having the same issues - you shouldn't need any lube to make this thing move freely.

This screw? Perhaps the plastic base gets warped when snugged down.
4/15/2024 10:30:48 AM EDT
[#31]
My top screw stripped out within a few thousand pulls of the handle.

LEE told me to use a larger screw and just self tap it in.

So far I've just left that top screw out and the rail is held on by the bottom screw.

I had to sand and polish my rail to ensure smooth functioning, while also making sure the bottom screw isn't too tight.

My rail is held on with barely a whisper of hope at this point.

Sorry for the huge photo I'm on my phone and can't shrink pictures. If you look under your press there should be a screw holding the black plastic track on from the bottom. If you're having issues back off on the screw a little.  It causes the rails of the shuttle to bind of it's over tightened

I don't even know how long I've had this thing, but 10's of thousands of you name it every caliber brass decapped, some resized.  I love it.  Yes, it has its quirks and we have arguments occasionally, but I woudn't be without it.  Highly recommend them and thank you Lee for making a simple, affordable tool that does so much.

So how are you guys liking the universal case feeders?
I am loving my deluxe APP, but I initially set it up for 45. Now that I want to change it to a different caliber, looks like I am taking the case feeder back apart and starting from scratch.
This is going to be a pain switching calibers.

Looking at the universal feeders posted above.
How are they holding up and is it really adjust once, then just swap out the feeder insert and case pusher for different calibers?

You only need to turn the case feeder 180 degrees and insert the black L shaped plastic piece to cover the larger hole used for lg cases. It's unscrewing 3 nuts from the bolt, moving the bolt to the other position and screwing the nuts back in and adjusting the height. It's goes fast once you get used to it. Just don't loose the black L shaped piece or your stuck loading large cases only.

You have to change height for every caliber, unless you install a kit that allows the use of caliber specific inserts. I haven't tried it yet, but it's been on the list of things to try someday. Adjusting height by loosening/tightening a couple nuts isn't hard, so the motivation to act hasn't hasn't got to me yet.

Ya, have to change height of case feeder for different rounds.

One thing I did was aquire another 7/16 wrench
for this adjustment.

After about 20 or so change overs, it's a 5 minute
job.

The 3d printed kits that use those inserts (like posted up towards the top of this page) is exactly what I am asking about.
I have changed mine over the 9mm, as I was done with all my 45 for the moment. Just having to take it apart, reposition the bolt, nuts/height, makes for a slower caliber change.
Changing a insert and case pusher would be so much easier and faster.  Just was curious if they work well enough to get one.
I think I will break down and order one after the holiday season.

If this needs a new topic I can create one

I've decided I want the APP, Deluxe.

Immediate tasks will be decapping 9mm, 10mm, maybe 308 and 223
Future tasks will be bulge busting, maybe swagging

Aside from the press itself and way to mount
what will I need to get decapping?

Lee's website is a little sparse on what if any x-press shells it comes with.

Also been looking at some stuff on Thingiverse to have my friends print for me, the feeder and collator look promising

It looks like the Deluxe version now comes with everything you'll need to decap. I believe they did away with the xpress shellholders and now uses a universal shell holder type setup. I have the original version so can't give any feedback on how it works.

You can buy a Lee 9MM sizing/decapping die and then do both at once.  Allows you to have process brass ready sized brass ready for priming and reloading.

You could do it that way, but I haven't sized dirty brass in a long time. My process is to decap first, wet tumble, then size a clean case. No dirt in the sizing die that way.

I'm the same about brass, everything gets run clean
my 650 undersizes 9mm so I'm not looking for it to do anything than decap

If you scratch a sizing die with dirty brass, that scratch will transfer to every piece of brass run through that die.

I learned that lesson the hard way back in the 70's when I was a new reloader.

These were the day before tumblers, so the practice was to wipe dirty cases with a clean rag to remove the grit.

Different rag was used to remove the lube after sizing.

Tumblers are your friend.

I've had too many primer seating issues because of crud build up in the primer pocket. Started decapping prior wet tumbling because of it.

I tumble my cases twice - before and after decap.  Keeps my sizing die relatively clean (and the APP Deluxe) as well as cleaning the pockets before reloading.

Received my Lee APP press today as I was walking out door for kids sports
Got back at 9 and fiddled with it for a few

Instructions are kinda junk BUT I was decapping 9mm within 20 minutes
Now learn the rest of system and clean brass before decapping

Looks like the x-press dies are now only for swagging primer pockets

The bolt and misc pieces for case feeding system is pain in ass so far
I need to buy that 3d printed version files so it's already set for right height

Yes setting the bolt and getting the right adjustment takes some fiddling. It gets easier as you go.
