Latest X95 experiment: Manticore Arms Optimus handguard, IDF pistol grip & thin buttplate, Meprolight Tru-Vision RDS & Olight PL Turbo (63k C, 800 L). First impressions of the Optimus are very good, feels better in the hand than the stock handguard. The small shelf at the front an MLOK slot is just perfect for a TLR-type handgun WML (but I like the push switches on the Olight here better than the standard toggle switches, been using them ever since the PL Turbo came out and to date no problems). The bezel is going to get some gas from the FH, we'll see over time how serious this might be. Attached File |

I've narrowed it down to two possible setups (no bbl shadow w/either). The original is about 3.5oz lighter, does a better (but not perfect) job of centering the beam over the bore and better protects the WML from impacts & snagging. However, the Optimus handguard is a little on the slick side, the WML is exposed to more FH gas, the wrist binds when grasping the X95 and hand position has to be pretty precise to easily access the WML's switch w/the thumb. The second choice adds a vfg which, while heavier overall, doesn't bind the wrist, is always a secure hold and properly positions the hand so the thumb always finds the WML switch. However, the beam isn't as well centered w/the bore and the WML to the side is more susceptible to snagging & impacts (eta: Last year I took one of my X95's w/a similar setup using the original forend and allowed it to tip over on its side 6 times directly onto the Olight PL Turbo w/o damage to the Olight). Thoughts as to which might be the better setup & why? Thx! Attached File |
