Greetings all - found a local ad regarding an L1A1 and wanted to seek some clarification from the group. The only pics I have:     I have been trying to understand some of info I've been finding online, specifically if the "LK BARRINGTON" mark indicates an LMT receiver or not. Any guidance much appreciated. Stated to be Type-1 configuration with original coachwood furniture, folding charging handle and carry handle, and four original 20-rd magazines. Asking price is $1950. |

I *think LMT made them for a short while for DSA, then DSA started making their own. IIRC part of the serial number tells you if it was an LMT ….Don’t remember which part but they were premium stuff at top dollar. 1900, given the market now, almost sounds low. Do be sure, cause there are some nice looking guns on junk receivers floating around. Edit….i had to look it up. Production Partnership: LMT manufactured forged receivers for DS Arms (DSA) for their early SA58 FAL rifles.Serial Numbers: You can identify LMT-manufactured receivers by looking for a "DS" serial number prefix. I think if I was selling an inch Australian on a current non LMT DSA L1a1 Aussie cut receiver I’d ask all of that. Especially if the barrel was Aussie and not Brit. |
The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.
Well, as the kids say, YOLO and f it I'm foing  I saw on the files where a guy was selling receivers with the same marking style advertised as LMT, and nobody called those out. If/when I end up with it I'll bring it back to be mocked or praised. |

Good luck brother. I only have one, a parts gun from an STG over Imbel and it is fun and flawless. Still have the stg bbl lol. Ban gun so they built with a bare muzzle. Attached File |

That is a really nice looking rifle! Let us know how it shoots when you get a chance. I converted my over to wood from the plastic furniture a few months back and wish I had done that years ago. Mine looks almost exactly like yours now, right down to the green carry handle. |

Color me jealous as hell. I owned a Gun South import FN FAL Match. Never shot it. Traded it for an MP-5. Always wanted a British or Australian inch-pattern SLR. Never thought PSA / H&R would produce a T48 and when they did they sold out in a few hours. I've never been impressed with groups produced by scopes mounted on the sheet steel / Weaver (maybe Picatinny) receiver covers. |

ARS will put about 90-95% of the English receiver cuts on the out side and remark it. The only thing he cant do is move the serial. Exactly where that is depends on the serial exact location. He said its hard to tell if not side by side its not 100% correct Mine is going there when I can figure out how to get it back. Its out of state and I could send it. I think he can only send it back to my legal IL address. Not sure it would be legal to pick it up from him when it done. |

It is only cool when you throw yourself down the driveway with the gun. That way all your gear and guns have a similar level of wear to them. Bonus points when you start using zip ties, flex cuffs, and 100 MPH tape to hold stuff together…. (Too many pristine guns posted on this website!) But damned if a formerly $325 LMT/DSA receiver plus a cheap STG kit hasn’t gone sky high in terms of value…. |

There is a fellow in Italy that had quite the write up on match prepping his FAL. It’s not exactly a normal or easy thing to do. edit…..it’s a sticky on Falfiles in the L1a1 section by Paola.orange. It’s a battle accurate battle rifle. Iron sights are fine for the accuracy of the design. A dot helps for old man eyes but makes things less convenient in carry. Like a scoped M14 it’s a diminishing return for the cost and effort. |

I went through a FAL phase years ago. I ended up with a ton of them. On the non-inch uppers "DS" serial numbers indicated LMT. "DSA" serial numbers indicated ... DSA uppers. I never had an inch pattern so I can't speak to those. Best FALs I owned were preban imported Imbels (SAR-48 ... not the later SAR-4800 post bans). Haven't owned or thought about FALs for years. A week ago the guy that bought my last one texting me asking what I thought it would be worth today since it has a "DS" upper. That drove me to this sub-forum. Neat guns for collector types. |
