The answer to your ammo question is maybe. Early M28/76's were converted M28/57 target rifles that used barrels from the M28/30 and have .308 bores. These early rifles won't normally chamber Soviet surplus 54r. The later production M28/76's were built using M39 barrels with .310 bores and will usually chamber Soviet surplus although that's just an accident since the Finn's used special target ammunition in these rifles. You'll have to do some testing when you have the rifle on hand. All of the people I know that own one of these hand load ammo for them. Very nice rifle by the way. Like you, I had a shot at one years ago and hesitated (never hesitate) and I've never seen another at a price I could afford. Edit: I checked out the other pictures in that auction and your M28/76 was made using a "late date" 1969 dated M39. As such it should be able to chamber Soviet surplus 7.62x54r. You will almost certainly get better accuracy using handloads though. Spam can ammo isn't known for stellar accuracy in addition to being corrosive. |

I have one and have shot a handful of steel-cased surplus round through it. They are snug going in but not anything that's alarming. Normally I shoot PPU through it. On mine, I cannot adjust the rear sight low enough to hit at even 300 yards before the dovetail hits the stock. ![]() Wonder how far they were shooting these things. |

Think you're gonna need the standard aftermarket Mosin scope mount that you have to drill and tap the receiver for. There's a "scout" optic mount that goes in the original rear sight base if you don't want to modify the receiver. |

@primusphilum As stated earlier, most M/28-76 rifles received their barreled actions from late 60’s M/28-30’s which are all .308 diameter bores. I have an unissued 1968 28-30. Here are a few pictures but the last one is with a .30 cal muzzle wear gauge that I use on my US service rifles. It reads -1. 😉. Attached File Attached File Attached File |

ETA At the time, I ended up putting one of the Accumount types on it instead. Regarding the mount you're referring to, I just haven't got around to trying if it works. I ordered one of the SK mounts from Galati-they're backordered. But they let you order it. Because it's such an uncommon rifle, I'm not exactly optimistic they'll make more. But they did take my order.

I bought a few M39s back when Pat Burns (IIRC the name) had that M39 website (mid 00's). |
