I am looking for some ideas for an IFAK pouch. My med kit on my Helikon-Tex chest rig takes up the dangler and then some of the admin pouch gets the overflow. I bought a USMC FILBE pouch that is outstanding. It holds my entire kit and this will go onto my Taps rig. But it’s to big I think for my FLC. I’m needing ideas for my FLC. I found one pouch and I can’t remember the brand name now. I ordered a Chinese made copy, it’s a one to one copy of the brand name, just to see if my med kit would fit before spending the money. It does fit everything nicely. The size of the pouch is 8” long, 5.5” high and 1.7” wide. This is the pouch on Amazon. This is a different pouch that is also a copy. It almost works. I was just wondering if there was something like this pouch that might be a surplus pouch that I could use? I’ve Googled sizes of various military surplus pouches and they all seem to be hit or miss on the correct size. The same pouch can be 6-7” wide or tall. Now to the JSTA pouch. I found someone on Reddit that was using it to hold their water source. The guy is like me. Hates canteens due to cleaning them. I never feel like they are clean enough. He used two 16oz wide mouth Nalgene bottles. I ordered a JSTA and just got it and it definitely fits two water bottles. I bet it could also fit a Gatorade bottle. From the looks of it a 32oz canteen would work should I ever go back to using a canteen. I have two of these pouches for my Taps and will be getting two of them for my FLC. I thought I would share this with everyone just in case someone else is looking to do the same. |

I have two Spiritus JSTAs on my SWAT armor and a knockoff on my patrol armor. It holds enough for a good ifak and has the back section for a radio, flashlight, or a magazine. Personally I would just buy the copy if that’s the route anyone else goes. |

I’m going to see if my med kit will fit into the pouch and if so, I’ll buy another one. Yeah the knock offs are crazy how good they’ve gotten. I’m thinking about getting my HAM license so I like the idea of a radio in the back. I also think my med kit is more than I need. I definitely have a good many TQ’s on me. The pressure bandage causes issues with pouches. It isn’t compressed enough to take out the bulk and then I added in rolled gauze for wound packing too. I have some that are compressed as well. The JASTA pouch is almost 100% perfect of a pouch. Also it’s cool you are in SWAT and tried one of the knockoffs and to also know it’s holding up is awesome. |

But they have all been pretty well made. Moreso than most chinese stuff. If you get one, get the Petac one. Surplus pouches - canteen pouch? They're smaller than the Filbe IFAK pouch. You can use a IFAK insert with these too. That makes them easy to move the IFAK contents back and forth to other pouches. One of the 100 round SAW pouches? A Nalgene canteen will fit in a JSTA but it'll be at a slight angle and doesn't have a ton of velcro holding it in, iirc it felt secure though. One thing that surprised me since I never thought to try it is a 30 round mag fits inside the main pocket, you could add another but I'd add some shock cord around the pouch to keep it tight. There's not much of a reason to do so unless you just want one single pouch, like something to quickly slide on your pants belt. I like it but have only used it on a belt. I bought a Midwest Armor 2xAR pouch hoping it would be an improvement (zipper, 2 AR mags) but I don't think it is. The molle and belt slide through should be 4 wide instead of 3 and the main pocket is a little busy for me. I don't have an insert so I haven't gotten it to a range yet. I'd like to try Shepherd Associated's version, that looks a little leaner. |

Someone below posted pressure bandages that are compressed more. That would help. So I’ll see about that. Also thanks for the links I saved them. From the what I’ve seen the PETAC pouches get good reviews and people compare them to the brand name saying they are great and half the price. |

It is what lead me to the JSTA pouch and finding a Reddit user who used it for water bottles. |

that amazon pouches are copies of the these days popular GBRS brand ifak. That said, it depends on how much supplies you carry and how you carry them. There are small ifak tray inserts that are sized for a two mag pouch. The First generation us army ifak was a larger insert stuck inside a 100 round pouch. If you carry loose supplies in a ziplock bag or a vacuum sealed one you may have different requierements. |

Some of the things I have just aren’t compressed enough. OLAS Modular 4” trauma bandage. if this was compressed down a bit flatter it wouldn’t cause the issue I’m having with smaller pouches. I also have some rolled gauze that are still sealed in plastic that have some air to it. I need to replace these with vacuum sealed products from NAR. I just had these extra from a hand surgery I had. I have a few different sizes of flat gauze that I keep in a baggie. Band aides too. I get a lot of medical supplies from Home Health for my dad monthly that I can supplement into my kits at some point too. I have two vented chest seals and three to four tourniquets on me. One inside my IFAK and one on the on my kit and one in my pocket. Those are both CAT and SOF T tourniquets (love the SOF T’s and will be getting more of these. My last batch I gave out as gifts). I also keep a RATs on my kit. It’s a love it or hate it item but it gets the job done should I need it. I also have a SWAT tourniquet that I can use with a standard gauze bandages and make a pressure bandage. I can’t remember if it was SkinnyMedic on YouTube that gave me that idea or someone else. I need to work on my IFAK a bit more. I feel like I have what I need to save myself or someone else. I want to take a stop the bleed class but getting them to my city has been a challenge. They tend to go to areas about an hour from me and at this time while taking care of my dad I can’t get to them. |
