I have the opportunity to purchase one for $1300.00. It's in nice shape, typical parkerized finish and brown plastic grips at probably 90% finish, the bore has pitting but strong rifling, it's a rattle trap but I suspect most (or all) of them are. Unfortunately I'm not a 1911 guy. I've owned a few, but they're really not my thing - OTHER than owning an actual USGI - which is something I'd like to have some day. Is that a good price? |

Compare it to the CMP prices / grades and see what you think is similar. If the frame and slide match, that's a plus. No import mark, plus. |

As built and correct [including the finish] is worth far more then a rebuild. Remove the mag and make sure the sear spring fingers are adjusted properly and most ''rattletraps'' aren't rattletraps. It's not like I have never used the ''pretty loose and worn isn't it?" excuse to get the price knocked down myself..........................

Slide and Frame match is a good start. If they do match, I'd pay $1,300. Now, the small bits like the trigger, thumb safety, slide release, hammer, etc. are important as well. If these are all original to the pistol, then you've got a heck of a deal on your hands. |

You need to make sure it is correct at least slide frame barrel - Even if not 1300 doesn’t hurt too bad. Doing some research and confirming correct parts and original finish is essential. A true all original gun not rebuilt is easily worth double the 1300 figure given. But there are probably more mix masters out there than original guns, especially since the recent cmp releases. Just as an example, a mixmaster in good shape with an Ithaca frame would be a 1300 dollar gun. But let’s say someone stippled the frame or added adjustable sights to the gi slide, cut the price in at least half. Just a little gi pistol history M1911A1’s were made by: In descending order of volume produced: Remington Rand ( the typewriter company) made almost as many as all other contractors combined! Colt Ithaca Union Switch and Signal Singer Sewing machine Despite ithaca being a gun company they had a lot of trouble initally in production and passing the various inspections and tests required in particular the interchangeable parts test |

I will be picking it up in a week or two. The slide and frame definitely match, it has a High Standard barrel which is apparently correct. The hammer is correct. I THINK the slide stop is correct. Unsure of safety. The mainspring housing I believe is NOT correct. I have more research to do. |

Unfortunately, no. I was pretty gung-ho but with the holidays, and my wife wanting to go on a trip, it's just not going to happen. |

Rebuilt values tank compared to a correct as built M1911A1 even if the finish isn't as nice as the rebuilt/refurbed one. One thing I learned is if you find a nice correct one at a decent/fair price, BUY IT. I learned that lesson early on when I walked away from a pretty decent US&S for $750 and came back later to buy it. GONE. It took me well over a decade to find another one that, while nicer, was almost 3 times the price of the one I walked away from. Lesson learned. [and I still did well buying the later one price wise] |
