I have found myself liking the WLVRN the most. I had issues with my gun, but DT fixed some and I've been willing to tinker with it as well to make it better in my eyes. Its lightweight, good ergos, and has probably the most thought out controls that work the best. In 5.56 its very pleasant to shoot. In 308 it can be handful but given the weight, its what I would expect for any gun. DT doesn't make as many guns as the other companies, so its kinda a hard buy for many as its the most expensive bullpup in this class, but might need some TLC to run right. The issues I had were in 308, the 556 never gave me any issues. Accuracy is better than the X95, but not as good as the AUG, all of my groups (about 800 rounds documented) are averaging around 2-2.5 moa. It does have a pencil barrel, so that is probably why. Currently working on a heavy 20" barrel in 5.56 to see what it can do. X95 is probably my next favorite, Mine is SBR'd with a 13" barrel, and is an excellent gun, only downsides being no adjustable gas and accuracy leaves something to be desired. Imho it should be SBR'd and not left as a 16/18" gun. AUG is probably next, mine has been very accurate with the 20" 1:7 barrel, and some gas port work has tamed the recoil to where its a lot better. Its definitely not as good ergonomically as the newer bullpups, but feels good and shoots well. Had a Hellion. It was fine, accurate, but was on the heavy side and sorta more bulky than the WLVRN. Some of the controls were not as I would like them, and other just weird things I didn't care for, and the gun just looks kinda weird. Solid gun, just not for me. RDB, had one as well. Shot fine, Overall feel gives the recycled plastic bottle feel, and just didn't inspire confidence. Wasn't a fan of the bolt release, and the need to give it a reach around and under to check the chamber. (I've never had issues shooting my X95 or Wlvrn weakside) Recoil impulse suppressed was long and odd, given how far the bolt had to travel. Disassembly was awkward and need finesse to get it together. Considering how cheap the RDB is right now, it is a good intro bullpup but I just didn't care for it, especially when I have other bullpups I like more. FS2000. Imagine holding a tuna, its big and bulky, awkward and incredibly expensive. If they didn't sell for 3k+ I probalby would have kept mine, but I couldn't justify keeping a $3K+ range toy. |

Well, I guess Ill put my 2c in. My fav bullpup is also the most affordable; Keltec RDB. Its light weight, Great trigger, Great suppressor host and a 20 position Tunable gas system. Swap out the handguard for a lucky Irishman and the gun magically is more metal than plastic. The lucky Irishman bolt release also fixes what I think is a mistake in how the bolt release operates/Press up to release instead of down. Rifle shoots accurately when you get away from bulk m855 and m193. Never have needed to chamber check..Solid entry for affordable bullpup (that sometimes can be found new for 600$). The Desert Tech WLVRN (and MDRX) is my close 2nd fav bullpup. Its lightweight (but not as light as the RDB), good ergos, though Im not a fan of its safety. In 5.56 its very pleasant to shoot and accurate. Submoa 5 shot groups can happen with this caliber. In 308, it is pretty solidly a battle rifle. In 6.5cm you have a lighter recoiling DMR and of course in 300blk you have a fun Special purpose rifle.(Yes I have or have shot all of these). I miss the folding charging handles and Forward eject on the MDRX when I shoot the WLVRN..but really like how light it is. IWI SAR is probably my favorite vs the X95, The SAR just feels better in hand (especially to charge) and is only missing a push button mag release from the X95,also doesn't have adjustable gas. Trigger is also on the heavy side until you spring for a Geissele trigger pack. Sadly, most upgrade options outside of the trigger are slowly dyeing as the SAR hasn't been made for a while.. Hellion. As accurate as the WLVRN and RDB, but has weird ergos (I hate the bolt release),you really have to think about mount+optic choices if you want to use the cheek rest,... and a horrid 3 stage/8lb trigger. Nearly sold mine just for that...However. Bill Springfield lightened(saved) my trigger to about 3.5lbs.There are other drop in triggers. Also suppresses well AUG is currently my newest and least favorite. Not as good ergonomically as the newer bullpups, and needs grip tape on the pistol grip..Trigger is the second worst of the above even with red springs..So I eagerly watch what folks do with the Jard trigger. Also hate the available options (price mostly) for more handguard space(least amount of space of any bullpup). |
