I want an SBS (Page 1 of 2)

With the zero tax Im going to see what all I need to do to use my trust (haven’t bought anything since stamps since 41F) I’ve always wanted a SBS. I mainly shoot pump shot guns bird hunting. But I love the look of the shorty A5 So what are the best shotguns to go short with and the best length. This will mainly be a fun gun and maybe a little HD duty Getting ideas so I know what guns to keep an eye out for |

I have an 870 SBS but an A5 would be awesome. I have an old model 12 that I keep thinking about cutting down. Don’t see many model 12 SBS. |

The easiest are pump guns and single shots because you don't have to worry about functioning issues. With an 870 500 590 there are tons of parts available including barrels in most cases so it's a super simple switch. They are frequently sold off as police trade ins as well so you don't have to do anything to them. If you want a semi auto make sure it's a system that work easily or is easy to mod. The Benelli inertia guns are popular because kind of like the pumps the mechanism doesn't need to be changed. |

I did my 870 because I already had it and spare parts are cheap. Cut down to 12.25” or so in the garage, basically the length of the mag tube. Any longer and it’s not worth the stamp, any shorter and you have to pay a small fortune to get the mag tube shortened and action bars messed with. It’s a hoot and still “useful” for some shotgun things. |

I’m in the same boat, always wanted an SBS but haven’t pulled the trigger. $0 stamp will push me over the edge. I’m think chop the barrel on my 870P trade-in to 14” and I really want a semi so I’m leaning towards an A300 Patrol based on a thread I found on 1911 Addicts. I just need to find what shop I should send my barrels off to for cutting and threading for chokes. I do plan to get a 12G suppressor at some point. |

My First SBS was my old 870 Express, I bought a 14" police barrels with express sights on it. Second was a Stoger Coach Gun i cut down to 11". Third was an 11-87 Police i bought off Gun Broker. I also have a PTR Jack AOW. All were easy. |

He is a member here, he goes by the name Guncat. He has done a ton of members' guns, and i have only heard positive things about him. He posts a lot giving advice, suggestions and invites I to various shotguns. |
| When you cut down a long barreled Remington Model 11, I have found it is best to add an additional friction ring or partial friction ring (cut in half ) to reduce the extra velocity created by recoiling forces on the now lighter barrel. You would be surprised how much harder a shortened Model 11 will kcick with the same friction rings/orientation before it was cut and adding an additional may be required to minimize wear and recoil punishment to the shooter. |

The old lady in the compound gave Max a bunch of red shells wrapped in cloth. The shells Max found on the dead guy at the Gyro Captains camp were red. The best view is at the end when the Ferral Kid is trying to get the last shell off the hood of the Rig right before Wez popps up from the front. I've watched the movie way to many times. They're all 12ga. |

Buy a Mossberg Shockwave 14” pistol grip shotgun. Add: ESSTAC shotgun card(s) NDZ Enhanced metal safety XS Big Dot front sight or Scalarworks Sync/03 RMR mount. Then put a Hogue rubber overmold youth stock set on it once you get your $0 stamp.  If you want a Semi… just get a Benelli M2 Entry 14” factory SBS. They’re like $1000-1100 on sale and the M2 inertia platform is going to be better than pretty much any other rem-shit or cut-down gasser.

He actually said they've done them off and on but the price keeps going up. The new ones are built on a Turkish gun and still fairly expensive so it will be interesting to see how it goes. I hadn't thought about the color schemes on the shells to distinguish the different gauges, but after a range session yesterday with my MM blaster I think you're right. All my 20ga ammo has yellow shells.    I need to re-watch MM and RW. ..... For sure the gun used in the original is different than the one Max carries in RW. You can tell that just be the grip cap.  |

I have two - both are SHORT and work easily I have an 11-87 police shorty with a red dot for HD. Even the wife enjoys shooting that one. I still need to refinish the wood on this one to something darker. It's for snakes at the farm and will go in holster on the tractor. Attached File |

The 990 looks like it will be a good platform to SBS. I shot one a few months ago. It ran no problem on weak ass Winchester target shells, that my old 940 would not. Cody at Vang Comp did a quick video on the one they SBS'd, and it seemed to run fine. It's possible, the new gas system actually works. I really don't need another SBS, but during zero dollars days, if i was, I'd look at that. Jay |

Stupid question time... For you guys with the cut down old shotguns, did you DIY? Is there really any skill or technique needed, or just get a hacksaw and cut like any other piece of pipe? How many had function / cycling issues that had to be addressed? SBS is one thing I don't already have, that I'm going to do with the dropping of the $200 tax. The 12 gauge, I literally did with a pipe cutter and then cleaned it up, and have my gunsmith mount a new sight. On the 20g, I just let him do it all for me. I’ve never had issues with either one of them, and I believe you need to have the recoil system set on heavier loads? Attached File |
