Well sort of. I gave it to him as a gift a few years ago but he never really got in to it, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's soon after and he can no longer keep his hands from moving so he is unable to do anything relating to hand tools or even sand paper. So I got it back and he wants me to finish it for him. Its a kit that's completely in the white with no bluing what so ever and a unfinished stock, so I am looking for some guidance in regards to pretty much everything. its a percussion 50 cal hawkin and looks like it can have some serious potential, just wondering who has done one of these before and if there is a good place to get some tips and tricks on completing this kit. |

I've done several. It's pretty straight forward. I start by fitting all the parts. Then sand the stock before finishing. Should be stain etc in box. The barrel will need blued, should be blueing solution in box. Lightly sand maybe steel wool to clean any rust then apply blueing. You can also buy any stain you want if you desire a different color. Blueing can also be purchased. Both hot and cold blueing. Sometimes the wood swells from stain and you might need to refit parts. Take your time and don't Dremel stuff🤣 |
