Just sold off my last .45 acp handgun and I've always been a huge .45 acp fan. I think I've concluded that I just don't need it, as 9mm with quality ammo is good enough. The handguns are usually smaller, carries more ammo, recoils less and 9mm has better penetration. I've always known this, but have always just clung to the good ol' 45 maybe for nostalgic reasons...? I'm still a firm believer that 45 ball is much better than 9mm ball, but the cost difference to get good defensive 9mm ammo is not prohibitive. I started looking at some historical battles, especially the battle of Stalingrad where 9mm fmj was used extensively in the street-to-street, room-to-room in the rubble fighting against the PPSh-41 in 7.62x25 and each apparently worked good enough that even the allies used 9mm extensively over 45. Another fact that I never realized, was that 9mm is more powerful than the infamous 38 spl and the U.S. military issued lots of 38's, apparently they thought it was good enough. I had never bothered to investigate this comaprison but was kind of surprised by this. I've owned several Glocks in various sizes, several Sig P220's, various 1911's in various sizes, S&W M&P's in various sizes, a S&W 625 revolver and a Ruger Birdshead Vaquero. Watching the nightly news there's no doubt about the lethality of 9mm. Anyway, I haven't sold my 45 ammo yet and I'm not looking to replace any of the 45 pistols, but I am thinking about a suppressed 45 sbr. But a suppressed 9mm sbr may be the better option. |

You do you, I’m keeping a bunch. 😁 Nothing like a 1911 that works, a Glock 21, XD-45, Sig 227, 645 and a 625. I will admit I carry 9mm too, but then again, I still carry 38/357 too. |

| Whatever works for you. Some people like to consolidate, I prefer a little more diversification. I do primarily carry a 9mm now, glock 19.5 w/ rmr to be exact. However that decision came about more from multiple attacker incidents becoming more common during the summer of love following saint floyd. I still have and carry 40, 45, 380, 38spl, and 357 |

I carry and shoot 9mm Glocks with optics on and off duty. About 1K a month. But I’ll never get rid of my .45s A 5” 1911 and a Glock 21 have both been my daily carry guns in the past. I’ve shot a truck load of .45 in my life so I guess I’m old fashioned Attached File |

| I'm not much different. I've only got one 1911 and maybe a couple of cases of ammo for it. I don't suppose I'll ever get rid of it because I do like platform but it's use is limited to range toy only these days. I've got plenty of 9mm pistols and ammo for SD/HD zombie scenarios. |

I have recognized that the wounding mechanics of handguns is punching holes through the target. I have always believed that bigger is better, but placement is paramount in how the target is affected and with quality defensive ammo the wounding potential is pretty close among the popular calibers. To increase the effectiveness you increase the velocity which also equates to bigger guns with increased size, recoil and muzzle blast, aka any magnum, 10mm or .357sig. At that point I may as well use a carbine in an intermediate rifle caliber or a shotgun. All that being said, should the NFA go away and prices come down, I'd have to have a Thompson! |

I sold my P220 and got out of 45ACP prob 10 years ago. I bought a MAC MEUSOC 1911 in .45 this summer just because. 40 cpr for FMJ is spendy though. Shot a few matches with it but the red dot sight is just too engrained now and unless I am shooting USPSA major (which I'll never do) 9mm is more better. |

I just bought another one a few months back. An LE trade in M&P 1.0 4&1/2" .45 acp. Got it tuned up pretty good now. I keep thinking about getting a holster to carry it. Still have the 1911 pistols (all Colt with the newest one being almost 40 years old), a 2.0 M&P Compact and the big XD Tactical 5". Not getting rid of any of mine. I have a neat XD Tactical. Not a 1911 but neat. Everything but the hammer. Grip safety, thumb safeties, 5" barrel, 13+1. Just doesn't have that red/green dot I need these days to make it anything other than "a gun I used to enjoy shooting." Attached File |

I was basically where you were two years ago but still had some 45 ammo and reloading supplies, so I jumped off into the 45 1911 world. Made shooting fun again Now I’ve branched out into 380, 38 special/357, and 45 auto rim. For some reason I’d also like to add a 38 super. Variety is the spice of life sometimes. |

I did the same thing about 5 years ago, I had 5 45's but not single sentimental attachment to any of them. Sold them off, the 1911s flipped into 9mm 1911s. The Sig 220 ended up being a sig 229. I sold my 45 USP as I ready had a 9mm USP. I was off 45 for 5 years but last year a great deal dropped in my lap to pick up a Mk23 HK of course in 45acp, and I got it. I haven't refiled my ammo stash yet (which was the main reason i got rid of 45 in the first place, so I could stack it deep more efficiently in 9mm). I've come to grips with backsliding, and now I feel better about getting a couple CMP 1911s. |

I have heavy into .45 for years. Then my interest shifted and I traded off all my .45s, which I didn't intend to do. A Detonics Combat Master caught my eye and was priced right, so I jumped back in. It was a gun I always wanted when I was coming up, and it got me interested in retro guns. Then I found a cheap Tisas 1911 Duty to go with it. While it isn't truly a retro gun, it is a clone of the high end custom 1911 of my youth (1980's & 1990's). I then came across a Star PD .45 pistol that was a cutaway. I think it had a frame crack and they converted it into a showpiece. That got me interested in cutaways as well as Star pistols. So I just picked up a PD shooter along with a Star BM 9mm and Model A in 9mm Largo. So I have a .45, Star, and cutaway gun problem. It's definitely a fun ride. |

I probably wouldn't shoot much either, but I reload now, so the old calbers I never shot becase of cost have come back out. I shot 45ACP G21 this weekend with a friend. I just built another 10mm G20 for some reason, I guess I need one for each hand during the zombie apolaypse. I love 45 ACP and my G21 is accurate, I was shooting targets at 150yds at the range the other day. I am not sure I could do that with 9mm. |

Well, I used the funds to buy more suppressors, two 30 cal cans for my 6.8 AR's and a 36 cal can to go with the CVA Scout single shot in 360 Buckhammer I just ordered. TN now allows single shot straight wall metallic cartridges of .35 cal or higher for use during the second week of muzzle loader season. Does this count for any redemption for not owning any .45 pistols? |

I remember well during the scademic when 9mm simply could not be procured locally and was even backordered online. .40 was easily available on store shelves. I've since bought two .40 M&Ps to go with the 9s and .45. |
