Was watching a video and the guy had Henry on his list of worst guns. Said his Henry X is pretty expensive for a gun that rust easily. Added that a friend with a shop has to wipe them down to keep them from rusting on the rack. Anyone have the same experience? I thought they used a cerakote finish. I carried my X last time I went hunting and did not notice any surface rust. On the other hand, took my sons Mossy Patriot out and it was developing surface rust from the humidity after a couple days. |
I have three Henry’s. Early Big Boy Classic from 2008 in 44 mag, a 44 All Weather side gate, and a 357 X. I don’t hunt, but I purchased the 44 Classic from a local FFL friend of mine that resides in Amish country. It was most definitely used in the field before I got it. The receiver, barrel, and furniture show light, honest wear. No rust was on the barrel. I did send it back to Henry as my 240 grain SWC handloads were tumbling out of its early 1/38 twist barrel. Henry swapped the barrel (new 1/20 twist), bolt, and magazine. The finish seems to hold up just as well as any other blued barrel. The All Weather and X have not had any issues, but they pretty much live in the safe and go to the range. |

I have the steel carbine 44 my sweat makes any gun rust they all have to be wiped down after use. I don’t see the finish on my sample of one being worse or better yet than any other gun. I hunted all season long with mine last year nothing to complain about regarding finish. 5~ months hunting I have issues with the gun but finish isn’t one of them. Picky about bullets and screws loosen with little use. |

| I've got the basic, cheap H001 .22lr and the bluing isn't great, but it is a bargain/entry level model. I wish they sold the same design with an all steel receiver, nice wood and high gloss bluing as an heirloom model. The rifle itself works fine but it's a tool, not an heirloom. |
